. >> i'm chris o'connell. couple found dead in new jersey home two years ago aft it caught fire. jeff cole is following this story. jeff. >> john sheridan was the politically connected and well known. co evident cooper health system. it was believed he stabbed his wife and himself before setting his bedroom on fire back in 2014. his death was ruled a suicide. today that all changed. the new jersey medical examiner after review of autopsy reports medical records, crime photos and other materials has changed john sheridan's cause of death from suicide to undetermined. it was somerset county prosecutor's office which first called it a suicide. sheridan's family challenged that dan the change to undetermined was announced. john sheridan's son mark pressed to change ruling released a statement saying in part "we feel a huge wrong has been made right at least in part. unfortunately we still don't know who killed our parents and so i'll we accept today's decision as a vindication of what we've said all along, we have a long way yet to go ". the somerset county prosecutor declined commen

fox 29's chris o'connell is live in ocean city tracking all of this. chris? >> reporter: yeah, we are on the road, lucy, as this nor'easter continues to pound the jersey shore with high winds as punishing rain right now almost to the minute it is high tide that is what local emergency management officials have been watching for. take a look at where we are right now. you see this is bay of a back by the bay completely covered in water right now. just about every street corner scenes like this really repeated up and down the cape may county beaches. you see some debris out here. some floating docks. a coastal flood warning in effect all night. low hi lying areas that are susceptible to flooding down at the shore. it's a good bet it's happening tonight. wind gusts here in ocean city as you heard kathy orr saying, clocked up to 59 miles an hour gusts in ocean city. that is the bay side. let's go to the other side. take look at the churning atlantic ocean. waves here are upwards of eight to 10-foot high. do you not see that much down here at the shore. the wind k

fox 29's chris o'connell is live at the scene on 31st and tasker. you got the breaking details, chris. what you got? >> reporter: yeah, lucy, two young boys are lucky they were being tucked into to their beds in up stair bedrooms here in grays ferry tonight that's because downstairs, a hail of gunfire that made it to their home. one of those bullets came through the window of their living room and lodged in the wall just minutes before those kids were sitting there. take a look. a sister and their young brothers eight and 10 years old were inside the second floor of their home when shots rang out. 21 shots. about 8:30 tonight on 31st and tasker. it happened right outside a chinese take out joint. the 26-year-old sister ran downstairs. she heard glass break. she found a bullet had come right through her living room front window and lodged in the wall just feet from where they were watching tv minutes earlier, and listen to this, it's unbelieve annal, that's not bad enough, this isn't the first time this has happened to the family in their home. >> th

our chris o'connell was in avalon with the big gusting wind there made it difficult to stand up during that time. the let take a look. >> reporter: it has been a long night along the new jersey shore this northeast to ter still pounding new jersey shore towns. we are here along townsend inlet a unprotect area between avalon and sea isle and i'm sure you can hear, and see, the winds winning along here. i have been measuring clocking wind here with my meter and upward of 60-mile an hour gusts overnight. the winds were the most concern. earlier last night it was flooding, from ocean city to after license to wildwood, almost every street corner, was flooding. we saw tow truck operators, doing a tough business in terms of all night they said that yanking cars, out of waters that have been flooded. minor damage, to speak of. we hear there are scattered power outages but nothing major to speak of, other than we can almost certainly once sunrises this morning we will see a lot of beach erosion, once we see on these local beaches. cape may county emergency management says they will be in touch

let's get right out to fox 29's chris o'connell live in new castle with details t tonight chris. >> reporter: iain, 25 years that's how long the owner of this liquor store here in new castle has owned this business. it's really become his second home. his customers say they are like family but what happened here at the liquor store last night has him shaken after he fought back. it only took 17 seconds wednesday night when a man with a handgun walks into the store and asks for all the cash, instead of handing over all the money, the owner he is not having it. instead he fights back. the own are in and the gunman tussle over the counter before the guy finally gives up and runs out the door with no money. the owner gave chase armed with a cattle prod. he keeps unthe counter. his customers say this well-liked this hard-working business owner simply doesn't deserve this. >> it's bad because, um, now he'll be traumatized. >> when you heard someone tried to do this to him what went through your mind? >> i knew he probably zapped him with the prod dell prod. champ don't play no bleep good is he tha

fox 29's chris o'connell is live in ocean city, chris watch a mess. >> reporter: yeah it sure s street flooding continues to be the problem down here along the jersey shore. there was a high tide in the last hour that is come and gone but what has left behind let's take look. street flooding if we can get our other camera up here. street flooding continues to be a problem all over the jersey shore beaches. earlier it was the high winds let's take a look at some video. coastal flood warnings still remains in effect all night. cape may county emergency management say no reports of any major damage. there has been some sporadic power outages. many trees have been knocked down. ocean city whipped gusts were clock at nearly 60 miles an hour. low-lying areas though getting hammered tonight. one tow truck driver i spoke with has been busy all night yanking stranded and flooded cars from the water and he is not done yet. >> how busy have you been today and what kind of calls are you getting? >> a lot of penal in the water. a lot of people stuck. you know you just got to be out there for them.
