glenn? >> the snow lovers are really frustrated because look how close we were to getting another blizzard and with the track of this storm we would easily have gotten two feet of snow, if not more with this set up. as it is we got 38 degrees with fairly heavy rain in philadelphia. that's a sustained wind at 16 miles an hour. it's in the 30s everywhere. the heavier rain, the pa suburbs, lehigh valley later in much of delaware right now. as we take a look at the radar you can see waves of rain coming in from the ocean and farther to the north we've got an issue with some sleet and freezing rain. now in atlantic city, part of it of the island is just getting some light rain, but farther north up toward brigantine and long beach island getting some of the heavier rain. the whole area seems to be shifting up to the north a little bit and the same thing in the philadelphia area. now abbin talk warranton are getting into the heavier rain. northeast philly is full of it. ben salem is getting it. an

first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz joins us for you. it's warm for january. >> and it has been quite a while. and especially the nights have been way above average. we've got a couple of bouts of rain coming. the appetizer is tomorrow afternoon. that's round one. then we get a break from the rain. so saturday should be dry. but then the main course comes that sunday afternoon and monday and monday night. heavy rain and gusty winds. right now, it's in the 30s because it's mostly cloudy out there. it's 42 in rittenhouse and center city and society hill and port richmond. it's 33 at chestnut hill and andorra. that's the kind of difference our neighborhood weather can show you. now, we have mostly clear skies now, there's the rain back to the west. it's growing. it's moving in the general direction of the east coast. but it's going to take a little while before it gets here. it's the second area that we're most concerned about. that's why we've issued a first alert for rain and strong storms for the entire area, for sunday afternoon through

amy: and what role do movements play in this now, glenn? >> i think the most important thing is that you have things like the constitution that are supposed to impose limits on even what age arranged leader can do. you have courts that are supposed to check that and congress that is supposed to check that in the media that is supposed to check that -- all of which have failed. i think the only truly effective check against true abuse of revolt, popular protest. but in order for that to work, it can't just be confined to some sort of partisan movement. remember, you had huge arches against the iraq war in cities like san francisco and new york and washington and los angeles in 2003 that were ignored because they were viewed mostly as just liberal or democratic supporters, therefore, viewed through partisan prism. it has to be a kind of trance partisan movement were the american population really stands up and says, this is not about ideology. this is about the choice between democracy and authoritarianism and we choose democracy. and i do th

chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is tracking the storm for us. and if it will hit your neighborhood, glenn? >> it's one of these backwards storms. normally the further north and west you go the bigger the snow totals and the least amount toward the shore. we're getting the most at the jersey shore and the delaware beaches. that's why there's a first alert for those areas, along with inland new jersey and delaware. closer to the beaches. good bit of the day tomorrow is going to be affected by this. the heavy snow totals six inches or more right at the coast. and, of course, that will cause dangerous travel at the peak of the storm. you can see the area of snow and radar it's growing moving toward the northeast. there's a sharp edge to it. it's not going to be snowing everywhere in our area. the lowest chances are in the poconos, lehigh valley and burkes county for any kind of snow. 5:00 to 9:00 a.m. it begins at the shore. heaviest snow at the shore during the morning hours for the most part. and heavier snow inland, including the philadelphia are

. >> glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here. we're in store for a warm up. >> we have relatively mild temperatures even with the clouds around. the fog is gone. we can barely see on 95 last night and everything is fine. northwest winds and 47 in philadelphia. 46 in atlantic city, 49 in vineland. we have gotten in the 50s in wilmington and dover. so that's way above average. the average high temperature for this time of year is only 40. so today it's 48. tomorrow 54 with sunshine, and even friday and saturday, at least 10 degrees above normal. now tonight it's not going to be all that cold. it's going to be dry. we're not going to be seeing fog in the morning. and so we have a real nice day on the way coming tomorrow. but we've got some changes coming. we've got some rain friday and we have a big storm that will affect us by the end of the weekend. we'll get into that coming up in a few minutes. >> glenn, thank you. >>> on to philadelphia police who are taking a first of its kind step to stop sex trafficking. a problem more commo

dangerous court. >> he's joining us with the first alert neighborhood forecast, glenn? >> not everybody will be getting heavy snow, but everybody is going to get the bitter cold that is coming. you can see some of the snow on radar already in virginia. norfolk, virginia, they have a blizzard warning down there. much of the storm will be down to the south. they're already getting some, north carolina, look at the extent of the moisture there. so it's got a lot of potential. it's also got a sharp cutoff from heavy snow to no snow. snow begins at the shore around 5:00 a.m., starts to extend inland. heaviest snow at the shore generally during the late morning, midday hours. and the heavier snow inland happens around midday. it moves off shore later in the afternoon. at 5:00 a.m., it's snowing at cape may. and parts of delaware and starts spreading out toward philadelphia later on during the morning. you can see the temperatures here, it sticks on untreated surfaces immediately. it makes the snow very fluffy. it blows around in the wind, it does not stick to trees and power

chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is timing it out for us. glenn? >> and in a few hours, we're seeing the art museum right now. we won't be able to see it because the snow will be coming down hard enough to reduce the visibility. so this is coming in, just no doubt boabout it. 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. the peak 11:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. good timing for the crews trying to get rid of this. average about two inches across the area. parts of chester, upper bucks, upper montgomery may get around three. but even though the snow is over with by 7:00 a.m., still going to be some slippery conditions, sidewalks, driveways untreated surfaces. if you don't get rid of the snow, nature isn't going to do it for you, not until the sun comes up. you'll have to get rid of it yourself. the radar is starting to get a little more colorful here. especially in delaware. we're starting to actually see some reports of snow from wilmington down to dover where we have a little bit darker blue. one little burst down by dover, one up by wilmington. and gets light snow flakes with

and a fairly nice day today, glenn, when we had the sun out. beautiful. >> yeah, we had a lot of sunshine today and clouds starting to move in now. and it will be overcast just about all day during the day tomorrow. it's 48 degrees in philadelphia now. 40s else where. these are above average temperatures. but a whole lot colder than it was yesterday. the northwest winds gradually bringing in colder and colder air. but it also means uniform temperatures at the shore. 49 in ocean city. 47 in mullica township. look at the temperature difference between today and yesterday. 22 degrees colder in coatesville than this time yesterday. 20 degrees colder in trenton and mount holly. remember we had records yesterday. and we're going from the records yesterday to feels like temperatures in the 20s. during the night tonight, and into tomorrow morning, nothing bitter cold, certainly nothing record cold. nothing like last weekend. but after temperatures in the 60s, you'll feel that chill. and it will be there all day tomorrow and into the night tomorrow nigh

glenn. >> was that snow we saw out there? >> you can get snow at 43 degrees. i've seen it snow 46, 47 degrees. of course it will melt eventually and the flakes are really really tiny. barely coming out of the clouds. the wind not nearly as strong as what we saw yesterday. the temperature, well that's lower than what we saw yesterday. 37 in coatesville. 40 in allentown. 41 in philadelphia. and in delaware, we're seeing temperatures into the 40s for the most part. greenville is 39 degrees. glassgo w 42. further to the south we're in the low 40s, george town, lincoln, longneck, lewis ruhoebth. all of them, 42. and that's pretty close to average for this time of the year. the wind continues to be above average. gusting to 30 at dover air force base. remember, a couple days ago they were gusting closer to 50, even yesterday we gusted over 45 miles per hour. the peak gusts today in philadelphia, 31. and tomorrow's gusts will be a little bit lower than that. it's not going to go calm, but it's gett

. >> let's begin our coverage with glenn hurricane schwartz tracking tomorrow's snow. >> no doubt the coastal areas will get hit the hardest. we have a first alert out for the areas just inland in new jersey and delaware from those beaches. mainly, well, just about all day tomorrow this is not just a few hours, like last night's. heavy snow totalled six inches or more at the coast with dangerous travel at the peak of this. you can see how much moisture we're talking about. compared to what we saw last night that was coming in from the west. this is coming up from the southwest. there's a lot more moisture coming with it. it's also going to last longer. 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., snow begins at the shore, the heaviest snow i'm expecting 1:00 a.m. and heaviest snow in the inland areas 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. then we'll see the snow moving offshore between 3:00 and 6:00. look at the time table here, tomorrow morning, early, not much going on. but the snow area spreads up. areas north and west, further north and west, you get nothing out of this. and then there's the snow moving out, tempera

glad to see it, glenn. >> quite a difference from yesterday. and we have big differences across the area, too. as you'll see, 41 degrees in philadelphia. now we're seeing a lot of sunshine, had a few sprinkles in parts of the area but temperatures a lot colder farther to the north and more clouds. lehigh valley only 32 degrees. much of tedelaware is in the 40. we had a few showers racing through, a few light snow showers as well. more in the way of snow back out to the west. so keep an eye on it to see if it does cross the mountains and cross the susquehanna river to head toward the lehigh valley or berks county. right now not showing much sign of it. futurecast shows nothing more than a couple of flurries coming through those areas over the next few hours and then things clear out. as you see, some places are not just in the 30s or 40s, as we take a look at the neighborhood temperatures. talliville is 43 degrees, glasgow 45. 46 in middletown. now let's head farther south. we've got numbers in the 50s here. 51 in harrington. 50 in ellendale and

glenn? >> most folks are only going to get an inch to two inches out of this one but some folks are going to get more out of the system coming on saturday so stay tuned for that. right now, the visibility in philadelphia is not too bad if we can see some of the tops of the buildings, the visibility is decent. now you can see this area of snow generally in southern pennsylvania, up toward the poconos, there's not much at all. we have a little heavier band coming through philadelphia right now and also lancaster county going into berkshire hathaway -- burkes county and chester county. you can see the heavier cell over center city right now. a little bit bigger flake there is. now the visibility tells us how heavy the snow is falling. in coatesville, we have the heaviest snow now. three quarters of a mile visibility. that's accumulating snow. the two miles in pottstown, three miles in doylestown, that's pretty light. allentown is very light. northeast philly, one and a half miles, that's signif

glenn, how long will it last? >> the steadier rain is almost over, but we do have more showers for the rest of the night. the low clouds are in. you can't see the tops of the buildings, but we can see across the river. so the fog is not dense, at least not in most of the area. the temperatures are much, much cooler in the lehigh valley than elsewhere but still above freezing and will stay above freezing. reading at 40, brandon at 38, mertztown at 35. so is bath and nazareth and easton and bethlehem are at 36 degrees along with whitehall and in allentown. if anything those temperatures are going to go up during the night tonight. now, we have that heavier rain that was in delaware county. i told you just a few minutes ago was coming right into philadelphia. and here it is. right over center city and up toward chestnut hill, up toward the main line. more back into chester county. so we've got at least another hour of some pretty significant rain, but things are really quieting down. back to the west, as you can see,
