i'm janelle wang. >> and i'm jessica aguirre. it's been a long and painful wait for family and friends. many tears, many stops and starts for the family. but today the trial finally got under way with prosecutors laying out their case against antonin garcia torres damien was live in the courtroom today. >> reporter: it was emotional for the family hearing about the details of sierra's disappearan disappearance. there was no smoking gun today, just the prosecutor explaining why he thinks torres killed their daughter. we have a sketch artist inside the courtroom for the duration of the case. in the power point presentation, he described the evidence and the dna he says links torres to sierra. it's all circumstantial evidence and forensic evidence because there is no clear crime scene and sierra's body has never been found. the prosecutor played the 911 call that her mother made to report her disappearance and he warned the jury that the defense

i'm janelle wang. >> and i'm raj mathai. yesterday a young father was shot and killed, today a little girl is wounded. her family is now at her bedside. she was shot this afternoon in oakland right near mills college. jodi hernandez is in oakland tonig tonight. these crimes could be linked. what is the latest you're hearing. >> reporter: the family of the man killed yesterday tells us they've been contacted by homicide investigators about a possible connection to that case and today's shooting of a toddler. tonight that toddler is being treated here at children's hospital for a gunshot wound. >> i think it was make four gun shots, four gun shots and then a pause and then another three or four gun shots. >> reporter: that's what people in this neighborhood heard about noon today when police say somebody shot at a car occupied by a mom and a toddler. wounding the 22-month-old little girl. >> the mother and child were in the vehicle at the time of the shooting and again the child did sustain a gunshot wound. >> it's horrible.

i'm raj mathai >>> and i'm janelle wang. we're hours away from the first raindrops. take a look at our live satellite radar. you can see the storm building and getting closer. let's begin with chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. >> this is the pineapple express that's aimed towards the bay area through this upcoming weekend. and that's the main reason we have all of the rainfall in the forecast that will lead to an elevated flood threat saturday and sunday. currently as our stormranger scans around, you can see a few light showers right now. but we could see it pick up a little bit by late tonight. in advance of the storm system there's a flash flood watch in effect 6 p.m. on saturday to 9 p.m. on sunday. that's when we could have the heaviest rainfall and creeks witness rivers and streams could have a rise in the water. 9 p.m. tonight, a little rainfall begin to develop near the coastline and then we'll see our first wave of wide

good evening, thank you for joining us, i'm janelle wang. >>> and i'm terry mcsweeney. we are tracking the rain and damage it is causing tonight. >> we have team coverage, we have jeff ranieri, what can we expect tonight and tomorrow? >> well, i still expect the rainfall to continue, we've seen the continuing rainfall for the past four hours, widespread in the bay area, getting hit in the lower elevations, areas through san rafael and novato. we're seeing things picking up in the last hour, and across the santa cruz mountains that will continue right here into campbell. 11:22 tonight, downtown san jose, 11:39. now, the highest threat no doubt is across santa cruz, and two to four inches of rainfall expected. possibly mudslide especially near where the loma fire burned. now after this storm system another storm system heading this way through the weekend. we have more details at 11:10 and later. >>> and now we have chuck coppola, there are concerns over flooding and mudslides? >> reporter: that is right, there is a lot of flooding and mudslides going on in the los gatos

. >> and i'm janelle wang. we're going to take you outside to san jose. we've seen on and off rain today. but that will be small potatoes considering what we'll see tonight. >> the stream of moisture is lining up out in the pacific right now. that looks like it will be increasing the flood threat throughout the next seven days. let's get a check of your mie tro climate weather. you can see in the pacific, here's the moisture that is building strength all the way from hawaii, the sub tropical stream that we've seen in the past couple of months. it definitely mhas a lot of moisture. right now we're on the tail end of our latest storm, some areas of wet weather on interstate 80, down toward the south bay it's dry in san jose but low snow across mount hamilton. in terms of the next storm arriving, it looks like that's going to head through tuesday morning, going to stay wet likely into wednesday. this will put us with some snowy travel in the sierras, one to two feet of snow and the flooding threat could be increased by sunday's forecast.
