cnn jessica schneider is live outside trump tower. jessica, what is the president-elect saying and why? >> reporter: well it was just before 8:00 this morning that the president-elect took to twitter as he often does firing back at those comments by congressman john lewis that happened yesterday -- that came out yesterday saying that congressman lewis does not view donald trump's presidency as legitimate. in part, because of those russian hacks during the election season. donald trump did fire back this morning in two different tweets. i'll read them for you. donald trump saying, congressman john lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district which is in horrible shape and falling apart not to mention crime infested rather than falsely complaining about the election results, all talk talk talk, no action or results. sad. of course, many would argue with that depiction of congressman john lewis, a renowned and respected civil rights leader who marched alongside martin luther king. of course we'll celebrate him this com

jessica schneider outside the trump tower. thank you so much. >> our panel has been watching this unfold this morning as well. let's talk to cnn political commentator and cnn political analyst. your response? >> it's fascinating because trump and john lewis are actually around the same age. i think their ages are about five or six years apart. you can look at what they've accomplished in their lives. i think john lewis doesn't need a lot of defenders but i would certainly add my voice to chose who do defend them as someone who has made impressumeasurable convictions. the fact is donald trump is not win the popular vote. if he's ever going to start to bring the country together which hopefully will begin with his inauguration speech if not sooner, he's going to have to let some of these things go. one man, one respected man happens to have concluded from the evidence that we know there's a problem with his election. well, you're going to have to live with that. there's 300 plus million people in this country that are not going

cnn national correspondent jessica schneider was there and remains there. you spoke with senator sanders. what more did he have to say? >> reporter: well, you know, senator sanders talked a lot about these rallies and the importance of them. in fact, right here in michigan, about 8,000 people were here according to the estimates by organizers. thousands more people throughout the country at 40 different rallies extending from maine to california, all of the people out here were looking to share their stories about the affo affordable care act. they want people to know how it's helped them. how it's helped save in many cases their lives. helped save them massive amounts of money. i did talk with senator sanders and said, will the rallies really make a difference, especially when the republicans are going on the fast track to repeal and replace? you have become the leading voice for democrats, particularly with this issue. you have thousands of people standing outside there. will this message resonate? will this get through to the republican congress? >> i th

jessica schneider is in the midst of f it all. jessica. >> the hundreds, if not thousands of people mobilizing here on the streets of manhat n manhattan. for the past ten minutes, we've been standing here as these people move through the streets. they started off in battery park. battery park, of course on the banks of new york harbor. overlooking the statue of liberty in ellis island. the place where 13 million immigrants came through entering this country. seeing new york city for the first time. of course, that largely symbolic. well, now, these people are making their march from battery park up to 26 federal plaza. about a mile north of here. that is where the offices of department of homeland security as well as immigration and kus t custom s enforcement is. so they are making their message, taking it out on the streets. of course, yesterday, we saw this at jfk airport. now, they are bringing their message direct to the heart of manhatt manhattan, to new york city. i've talked to a lot of p the people. the enormity of this is

cnn's jessica schneider is following this story for us and joins me now live. jessica? >> well, no evidence of hacking or any customer information being stolen but, of course, there's still concern and question about the malware found on this burlington electric laptop. this came to light after federal agencies sent out an alert thursday about malware found on the democratic national committee computers during the elections. something blamed on the russians. burlington electric found an internet address associated with that malware. it was communicating with a company laptop. the electric company isolated the computer, pulling it off the network and alerting federal authorities. the department of homeland security is now acknowledging it was, in fact, the same code used in malicious cyber activity the u.s. government blamed on russian hackers. so far, there is no further comment and no details on how or if this latest intrusion in vermont is tied to the russians. burlington electric says the computer was not tied to its grid control systems and they don't believe this w

let's get more from jessica schneider. this is a developing story. we learned about it over the weekend. the big concerns are with the russian alleged hacking of the election. is this more? how big could it get? talking about the electric systems, set cetera. how was this discovered? >> it started thursday when the department of homeland security and fbi released a 13-page report. it included information about a malware code found on the democratic national committee computers as part of the hacks over the election season, what has been pinned on russian hackers. that's when burlington electric went to its computers and found an internet address using that malware code, it was communicating with one of its laptops. burlington electric acted fast and took the computer offline, isolated the computer and contacted the federal authorities. they're working with the federal authorities. the department of homeland security has acknowledged this is the same malware code that was, in fact, used with the dnc hacks and was tied to the russian hackers as alleged

cnn's jessica schneider has more. >> reporter:as donald trump rang in the new year, he continued to cast doubt on u-s intelligence pointing to russia as the culprit of campaign hacks during the election. donald trump: "i know a lot about hacking. and hacking is a very hard thing to prove. so it could be somebody else. and i also know things that other people don't know, and so they cannot be sure of the situation." trump refusing to elaborate about what insider information he has.only promising to reveal more after his meeting later this week with intelligence officials. incoming press secretary sean spicer, though, tempering expectations about what the president-elect might make public. sean spicer: "he's going to talk about his conclusions and where he thinks things stand. he's not going to reveal anything that was privileged or shared with him classified. spicer also questioning whether the sanctions, the trump team previously called "symbolic," were overblown. the obama administration expelled 35 russian diplomats .and shuttered two russian compounds on long island and in maryland. t
