that was senator lindsey graham asking some of the same unanswered questions looming today in the wake of general flynn's resignation. he was pushed to resign as national security adviser. the fbi are inquiring potential contacts between trump aides and officials. there are also investigations under way in the congress. roy blount, a republican, told a radio station today that trump should be questioned by the intelligence committee as soon as possible. here's blunt. >> the senate intelligence committee is looking at this. i would think we should talk to general flynn very soon and that should answer a lot of questions. what did he know? what did he do? and is there any reason to believe that anybody knew that and didn't take the kind of action they should have taken? >> well, members of both parties, republicans and democrats, clearly want answers. chuck schumer went further and called on law enforcement and the justice department to conduct an independent investigation. senator clair mccatskill is here. the big question is the question that lindsey graham raised, which is does anyone

lindsey graham was on the show. and he has along the lines of what david gergen has posed out there. he said this clearly. while he's waiting to learn more, lindsey graham wants to know this. did general flynn do this by himself, or was he directed by somebody to do it? that's a real question right now from senator graham. >> i would say that what general flynn did, we don't know specifically what he did but certainly the trump administration's attitude toward russia was very different than that of the obama administration. i'm sure that was reflected in the call. no matter what. the idea of blackmail -- blackmail means that he was subject to coercion on the part of the russians, probably because he said things that, quote, others didn't know about. the fact of the matter is, obviously, others did know about it. they probably didn't see this as as big a problem as maybe the justice department did. so just because the justice department says, well, it's a potential for blackmail means that the administration or the l

you've served for years with john mccain and lindsey graham. i want to get your take, where do you land on this? the president kind of reigniting his attacks, on again/off again, with senator john mccain, for saying that -- mccain saying he wouldn't describe the yemen raid as a success. the president says he shouldn't be evaluating the operation at all. what do you make of this? >> i actually found myself agreeing with lindsey here. john mccain wants more raids. john mccain and lindsey graham have both been pushing harder for us to go after radical islamist terrorists. the fact that he would criticize a raid, obviously there's reason for criticism, obviously in the sense that we lost a soldier and civilians were killed. that's a very tragic thing. but the bottom line is lindsey's right, if you want more of these types of activities, don't pick a fight with the guy who is doing what you're asking him to do. but this is just -- expect more of this. >> senator, do you think john mccain was -- >> they don't like to be criticized. i'm sorry, what? >

lindsey graham obviously no big donald trump fan either. but these are elder statesman of the president's party. remember, he was elected in part to break all this up, to disrupt this, to change the way things are done in washington. it's a balance, though, about disruption versus chaos. and if the white house is consumed every day by questions about their own truthfulness, about warring factions, about dysfunction, they just aren't able to get out from their own way here. and i will add this on the russia story that i think is significant. even if his base stays with him, there are probably enough members of his own party up on the hill who do really believe, like graham and mccain, and that may grow if revelations continue, who do really believe this has to be fully investigated. and if that's the case, it becomes the kind of daily story and drumbeat that the white house will have to put in an operation to handle just that story alone. that's not in place yet, as far as we can tell. >> i was going to ask you that. john mccain, by the way,
