"abc 7 news" reporter katey marzullo is live at sfo with the homecoming. katey. >> reporter: dan, as you might imagine he was exhausted but happy. denis davydov was met by friends at sfo, his flight delayed abouten an hour and a half but landed at exactly 10:00. it was about a month ago that denis took a vacation to the u.s. virgin islands, but he was arrested by customs and border protection when he tried to return. so the back story is denis left russia in 2014. he came to the u.s. on a tourist visa and then applied for political asylum. you see, he is guy and hiv positive and he was afraid to be living in russia under those circumstances. legal advocates told "abc 7 news" he did everything right and had permission to be here, but he ended up detained at an ice facility in miami for more than a month. he was provided with medication but did not have access to a specialist. tonight he says his health is okay and he's grateful to everyone who has supported him. >> i want to be around my friends, around my new family, and i am so thankful to my friends, to

"abc 7 news" reporter katey marzullo is live at sfo with the homecoming. katey. >> reporter: dan, as you might imagine he was exhausted but happy. denis davydov was met by friends at sfo, his flight delayed abouten an hour and a half but landed at exactly 10:00. it was about a month ago that denis took a vacation to the u.s. virgin islands, but he was arrested by customs and border protection when he tried to return. so the back story is denis left russia in 2014. he came to the u.s. on a tourist visa and then applied for political asylum. you see, he is guy and hiv positive and he was afraid to be living in russia under those circumstances. legal advocates told "abc 7 news" he did everything right and had permission to be here, but he ended up detained at an ice facility in miami for more than a month. he was provided with medication but did not have access to a specialist. tonight he says his health is okay and he's grateful to everyone who has supported him. >> i want to be around my friends, around my new family, and i am so thankful to my friends, to

the problem was not the weather as is so often the case at sfo, it was construction, the main run way used for arriving flights was closed for repaving and this was not the first weekend of work either, so more of this is why such a problem, leslie? >> reporter: what a problem, dan, for travellers over the weekend, if you look at most travel websites, you'll find that they say sunday afternoons, monday mornings are some of the busiest mornings for air travel but sfo closed one of its two main arrival run ways, that's going to repeat itself for several more weeks to come, and the work has to get done, but travelers aren't happy. >> they said oh, there's a delay in san francisco, it will be seven hours. >> erica is fuming because she didn't find out about the construction delay at sfo until she checked in at cincinnati airport. >> there was nothing you could do, the plane was sitting there at the gate the whole time, so frustrated. >> reporter: this weekend, more than 1,000 flights had to be delayed or cancelled as crews repaved the run way and installed new led lights down the center.

abc 7 news reporter is live at sfo with more. sergio? >> reporter: eric, we talked to plety of frustrated passengers who are simply delayed or experiencing canceled flights. there are some airlines that are even resorting to routing their incoming flight to neighboring airports like oakland or san jose mineta internationals. this is the reason for delays and rerouting. construction crews have one runway closed. part of a project that will continue through july. they are repaving the runway and then reinstalling l.e.d. center line lights that are used to guide planes during take off and landing. inside the terminals, we saw befuddled passengers trying to figure out if theirs is one of the delayed or canceled flights today. >> i'm not happy. they have construction on the runway, they're supposed to not book flights. why are they booking flights, getting us tangled up in this situation. >> no i'm not happy. i have to be here until after 7:00 tonight. i won't get to my final destination until after midnight. >> reporter: much of the construc

cell phone video now of friday's tearful confrontation on american airlines flight here at sfo. the mother of two young twins claims a flight attendant yanked her stroller away so hard it nearly hit one of the told letters. other passengers reacted angly. ts dave dao'ser to attorney was hired. his attorney says ceo osk ar munoz bunkle the issue by failing to apologize. >> mr. munoz had that opportunity to publicly, first of all, apologize. and he didn't. and then he called the doctor belligerent. then he finally said, meia cull. >> latin for my fault the attorney says dr. dao will be filing a lawsuit. he doesn't know whether there will be action in the american airlines incident. >> >>> flying in and out of sfo on the week you better be ready fore delays. the airport works to res from the second long-term runway at sfo the work is happening over the weekend. the past weekend work triggered more than 50 cancellations. airport officials say weekend travelers should expect similar issues as work continuing through mid-june. airport said it's made ample warning with the airlines abo

confrontation happening on the tarmac at sfo. >> thom jensen is at sfo. what do we know. >> reporter: this is the same thing that happened 12 days ago on the united airlines flight. passengers quick to grab their phone and shoot video when they see something they think is abusive or unfair. the latest video is from american airlines flight 591, a woman with two small children and a male flight attend ant get into a dispute over the woman's stroller. two other airline employees seem to be skoaling the mother and a man on the plane demands to know the name of the attendant who took her krol stroller. then he steps back on the plane. >> you do that to me pile and' knock you flat. american airlines says we have seen the video and have already started an investigation to obtain the facts. we are deeply sorry for the pain we have caused the passenger and her family and to any other customers affected by the incident. the airline also suspended the attendant while they investigate this. comes less than two weeks after a man was dragged off a nighted airlines fli
