mary: i think i was surprised by it. when people started asking, it was a reflection on the auto industry and what people thought of the autinstry. i have grown up in it and i would not be sitting here today if not 20 years ago people have not taken chances on me to develop me. it was a bit surprising, but now if i can be a role model for other young girls to pursue engineering careers or pursue math and science, that's a good thing. it is a question asked more than it should. david: when you joined general motors at the age of 18, did you expect to rise up, or any woman can rise up to bceat that time? mary: i think i had no vision it was something i could achieve. i was studying engineering and loved it. i was looking to pursue a career in engineering. i have this wonderful opportunity to work in so many different areas, great mentors. i feel very fortunate. david: did you hear from high school classmate who told you they always knew you were terrific? did you get a lot of that? did you find people laughing at your joke

mary: i would not. i have a job to do for many iars at general motors, and am excited about the technologies we are working on. when i am done doing that come i will probably focus on sleep. mary: you are right. distracted driving i believe is now surpassing is the most common cause of injuries. very disturbingly in the last year, fatalities in the united states have been going down and are now starting to go up. distracted driving is a big he said it -- big piece of it. i think we need to educate the that the message can wait. there are things we have done to integrate. a voice can read your text. it can be on the main screen on the consul of the vehicle. when you are holding your phone looking down, that is one of the worst things you can do. we are trying to put technologies in place to make it better. distracted driving is a real issue. i think we all need to take responsibly to address it. david: you are a member of the president's business advisory council. at the first meeting, you were sitting next to him. what is donald trump like? mary: it was a very productive meeting. we could share our views. ♪ david: do you drive yourself on a weekend? what kind of car do you drive? do you tes

mary: we're seeing a shift in u.s. and across the globe he lived suvs and trucks from a functionality perspective. we are seeing the shift. let's haven't in the last several years is even trucks and crossovers, maybe not as efficient as a car, have become much more fuel-efficient. we believe in having a wide portfolio. we are seeing low gas prices. people are going into an upper level model of vehicle or maybe one size bigger. they definitely are investing the money the are saving from the gas savings into the vehicle, but that's one of the reasons we have a full range of product lines. we will adjust to what the customer wants. david: when people going to buy a car these days who are the real decision-makers? the woman or the man in the relationship? mary: we have data on this. over 80% of decisions are made or influenced by women. david: when people buy a car and the salesman goes back and says i have to talk to my manager to see etr i can do this, do they really talk to their manager? that students will come to recall the history of isaac hawkins and anne-marie b kraft. history isn't always easy and enjoyable. andkraf --f hawkins of hawkins and kraft remind us as much. sometimes history is difficult and somber and riddled with injustice, but if there's one thing i've learned from my time at georgetown, it is that georgetown students are at their best when things are challenging. these buildings we dedicate today are surely appropriate samples of memorialized history, but beyond that, i hope they stand as constant challenges to confront difficult history and a challenge to stand up to lingering injustice that remains in our world today. we may not be able to change the past, but in understanding our history, we come to understand the role we have to play in the promotion of justice in our world today. isaac hawkins and marie b kraft will serve as reminders of that role and that challenge. thank you. i'm anne-marie green. this morning, the white house is scrambling to respond to a damning report in "the washington post" alleging that president trump revealed highly classified information about isis to russia. the white house called the story false but did not deny classified information was disclosed. last week, according to "the washington post," the president shared details about an isis threat provided by another country with the russian foreign minister and ambassador. the move has the potential to jeopardize a critical isis intelligence source. the post reports the information was so sensitive it was restricted even within the u.s. government. the u.s. did not have permission to share the intel, and after the meeting, white house officials called the cia and nsa to try and contain the damage. hena daniels is here in new york. good morning. >> good morning, anne-marie. lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are demanding answers. the trump white house is back in crisis mode as it reacts to yet anothe
