pete suratos was there at the scene with the officers. what do we know about this, pete? >> good morning to you. we just got that media briefing from sfpd and they tell us the search for the suspect has been called off on the ground here, which means that shelter for residents has been lifted. we've shown you the video from the scene earlier. here's the new information we're getting from sfpd. they're saying this took place around 11:00 p.m. on the 2100 block of quesada. as the sfpd taped off the area and several suspects exited the home when they arrived. one suspect shoots at police, the officer returns fire but there are no injuries to report at this time. as the suspects tried to get away, one person was detained. we're told the occupants are being interviewed as we speak. this looks to be targeted. as i mentioned at the top of the report, they have called off the search, at least here on the ground. they're still looking for the suspects. if you have information to help with the case, contact sfpd. pete suratos for today in the bay. >> thank you very much, pete. >> h

nbc bay area's pete suratos broke this story when it broke back in december and he joins us from dublin to connect some. dots for us. pete, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, sam, and in that news conference just wrapping up here in dublin, we heard the alameda county sheriff's office announce the charges against this man. we'll show you the picture of the suspect. the 36-year-old faces multiple charges including homicide, arson and torture. now, according to the sheriff's office he allegedly tortured and killed 59 castro valley resident andrea st. john before setting her house on fire back in december. here's the scene when it took place back in castro valley. when firefighters found the victim deceased inside of the home, the sheriff's office explained he has no connection to the victim and that he was committing a burglary at the victim's home that december night when she confronted him and was subsequently killed. a homicide investigation was launched shortly afterwards but the sheriff's office was led to dekaney by stockton police who arrested him in february on charge

we're live in san francisco, pete suratos for today in the bay. >> thank you very much, pete. it's 5:33 right now. continuing coverage now, bracing for more testimony in a police officer-involved shooting that rocked the hayward police department and the law inment community in general two years ago. there preliminary hearing continues for the man accused of murdering sergeant scott lunger during a traffic stop in 2013. yesterday, officer justin green testified that he drove up to the scene as quickly as possible and heard a gunshot from the suspect's pickup. officer green says he shot multiple times into estrada's car, but the suspect was able to drive away. estrada was eventually arrested the next day at an oaklandrupt where he was treated for a gunshot wound. yesterday afternoon, b.a.r.t. police say someone burglarized a jeep cherokee in the parking lot. at this point, police aren't saying if it's an isolated incident or a recurring problem. >> changes coming to a popular caltrains station. crews will begin reflooring the station on fourth and king street. nearly 786,000 co

live in menlo park, pete suratos for today in the bay. >> thank you very much, pete. >> 5:33 right now. new this morning, police in the north bay are investigating a shooting that sent two people to the hospital. santa rosa police say both victims were shot just before 10:00 last night in what they consider a gang-related attack. the victims were walking on a bike path near martin luther king jr. park. one victim was found on grand avenue. authorities found the other victim on colgon avenue. both are said to be in serious condition this morn. >>> some questions to be answered as well. a man facing battery charges after authorities say he bunched a b.a.r.t. train operator over the weekend. it happened on saturday night around 6:30 at the pittsburg bay point station. no word on what led up to the violent behavior. >> a developing story out of portland where a community is coming together following the loss of three brave men who were stabbed after coming to the defense of two young women this weekend. hundreds of people gathered for a vigil this weekend to remember a 53-year-old army vet

pete suratos just arrived at the scene. what can you tell us, pete? >> reporter: good morning to you. waiting for a sergeant to get on scene to give us more details on what led to the shooting or what took place, but i can tell you there's a coroner's van near this block on the 3700 block in south san francisco. you see a very active scene. from our vantage point, you can see a number of agencies here. you see them looking at a house in the area, looks to be in the garage area, but let's show you the video from earlier when this took place. a sergeant is en route to give us more details. what i can report is there are a number of agencies. i see the san mateo sheriff's agency, the south san francisco police. a coroner's van is on site as well as a forensics team. they did arrive here roughly at 12:00 a.m., but that's roughly all the details we have at the time. we're waiting for the sergeant en route to tell us what took place in the shooting. we'll continue to monitor this situation and have an update at the top of the next hour. >> thank you, pete.
