>> reporter: well, jim, it is a real mess down here in roslyn. we'll give you a live look at the scene right now where repair crews are doing their thing. the good news is the ruptured main has been shut down but the bad news is thousands and thousands of gallons of water swept through and into dozens of homes here. so that's your house with all the water cascading off the property. >> that is correct, sir. >> reporter: aaron houston of roslyn says it started right around 3:15 this afternoon when out of nowhere he heard the sound of rushing water. >> wife gets up and we look and it was a tidal wave of water coming down the back of the house. >> reporter: what houston heard and saw was thousands of gallons of water cascading down this hilly section of abington township after a 16-inch main ruptured. it took a full two hours for crews to finally shut down the main and by then the damage was done. several families had to be evacuated. approximately 85 residents will be without water service until tomorrow morning at the earliest and this stretch of
