[ riots ] >> reporter: it was february 1, when things got out of control at uc-berkeley. riots by masked protestors trying to stop the planned appearance by conservative speaker milo yiannopoulos. he had been invited by the college republicans to speak. the woman who filed the lawsuit, sierra robles, came to see him and was reportedly pepper sprayed by some of the rioters. the suit says her rights were curtailed because she was subjected to bodily harm for expressing her viewpoint. the lawsuit is filed in federal court and mentions civil rights and first amendment violations. because this is pending litigation, no comment from most of

joining us uc hastings law professor rory little. james taylor, university of san francisco political scientists. and marisa lagos. senate gop leaders finally unveiled their health care bill yesterday. what are some of the key provisions? >> it's not as different from the house bill as a lot of folks expected. we're still seeing these massive repeals of the tax hikes that funded obamacare on the rich. we're seeing deep, deep cuts to medicaid. in california that's the medi-cal program. the house version would have been that faster, so the senate version is a slower rollout. but it would still slash payments and put a cap on that really kind of making it not an entitlement program anymore. it would allow states to drop what is considered essential benefits under obamacare, like maternity care, mental health care, emergency services. it does keep more subsidies for the exchange than the house bill. but i think on balance, this is a very draconian change. would be for a lot of americans. >> how does this affect california? because califo

and uc berkeley would be the first uc school to have one like this. construction is supposed to start next spring. and the goal behind it is to make transgender students and transgender patrons feel more comfortable and not have to deal with the decision of choosing a locker room that they may not feel comfortable with. basically this locker room will be open to anyone. men, women and transgender student and people with nongender conforming identities. it will be made out of the existing locker rooms at the sports facility. unlike the locker rooms right now. it will have private changing rooms and bathroom stalls. in the past when transgender students needed a private changing area, they needed to go to one of the staff members and request to use the staff restrooms. the school hopes this will encourage more transgender students to use the gym. >> we wanted to limit barriers to access to wellness and the facilities. we want to make sure that everyone had the ability and felt comfortable to take advantage of our facilities. acilities. >> reporter: now,
