berkeley police had to escort him out. in fact, police had to escort most of the trump supporters out of civic center park. after they were on their on, some antifas would fight the trump supporters. officers had to use a smoke grenade to break up a fight out the park. trump supporters were hoping to rally at the park until 5:00. most were chased out by 2:00. no major injuries that we know of to both sides. >> we've seen a lot of violent protests in berkeley in the past. did police change their strategy this time around? >> reporter: right, they were much more aggressive this time. the police officers took a hands off approach. they would watch them from the sideline, let the guys basically both sides fight it out, battle it out. this time, every time they saw a confrontation, they would walk in there, and break it you up. that's why, i think they minimized quite a bit of the violence we saw today. by the way, we were able to talk with the berkeley police chief, not too long ago. here's what he had to say about his police
