katherine scott is live at einstein hospital where's being treated. >> reporter: the motive is under investigation. the victim was taken to einstein medical center in critical condition undergoing surgery. the search continues for the gunman. the witnesses were taken to northeast detectives to be interviewed. let's go to video from somerdale overnight. you can see the investigators on the scene gathering evidence. the 911 calls started coming in after 11:00 p.m. last night for the shooting at somerdale avenue in east cheltenham. witnesses tell police the 24-year-old victim was driving his volvo south on somerdale. he was at the traffic light when a white vehicle going north possibly a buick from 2010 pulled up next to him. the driver fired multiple shots into the victim's car. when police arrived, civilian was rendering aid to the victim who was lying next to the open door of the volvo. he was rushed to the hospital with gunshot wounds to his left arm and torso. three spent shell casings were found at the intersection. >> there's a strike mark on the driver door of the victim's vehic

katherine scott is on the scene with the latest details. good morning, katherine. >> reporter: good morning, tam, the two victims were a couple they lived at the apartment together they were found dead late last night. police have since we last spoke wrapped the scene up, the crime scene unit and detectives from the homicide division were here throughout the night gathering evidence. this happened in the first floor apartment 1300 block of federal street in south philadelphia. a 23-year-old woman and her 50-year-old boyfriend were found lying on the floor of separate rooms in the apartment. both were pronounced dead shortly before midnight. there were no signs of forced entry, but police say the place was ransacked. both bodies were bleeding and had facial bruising and something was found around the victims' necks. >> the two people were found by a family member who lives on the second floor apartment. when the family member went downstairs to check on them, they discovered the bodies laying on the floor in separate rooms and called police.

katherine scott is live at the scene in morrisville to explain the unusual way firefighters battled the flames. >> reporter: that's right, this was a stubborn fire and crews were here throughout the night. they are still here right now. the fire is under control as you mentioned. we're on the exterior of the scrap yard is down that way a little bit. let's go to the video where you can see what was happening overnight. the fire broke out on the 300 block of steel road in morrisville simms metal management scrap recycling yard. the crews hauled in cranes and lifted the cars. crews used the klain's to hoist the metal into the air to extinguish them, that's how they were blasting water at them. firefighters from multiple fire companies responded they were spraying on the fire from every which way. this is a remote location, tanker units were brought in to help with the effort. the fire was brought under control this morning, but crews are on the scene check thissing for any remaining hot spots. so far no word on the cause of the fire. >>> we're live in morrisville, katherine scott channel 6

katherine scott is live on the scene. >> reporter: that's right, matt, crews were here all night battling the flames, firefighters are still on the scene they are continuing to blast water on the hot spots inside. the fire broke out at 10:00 p.m. on the 300 block of steel road in morrisville at simms management scrap metal recycling yards. crews from multiple companies responded. they hauled in cranes to help to lift the crushed burning cars and metal into the air and then firefighters would blast water at them from every which way. this was a labor-intensive process it took time as firefighters worked to access the flames that were trapped under the scrap. the smoke was heavy, the flames were thick, this was a remote location, tanker units were brought in to help. crews are here checking for any remaining hot spots that could be in the yard, so far no word on what the cause of the fire could have been, live in morrisville, katherine scott channel 6 "action news." >> thank you, now to more breaking news.rch for a home invasion suspect. the action cam is live on overbrook avenue and cardin

. >> katherine scott is following the story from kings lane in bensalem. >> reporter: these flames are very quick and moved quickly you see what is left of the home the windows are broken out and the structure is charred and the homeowners are long time residents here both in their 80s they were pronounced dead early this morning. the viewer video shows the fierce flames tearing through this bensalem home on the 800 block of kings lane and the fire broke out at 4:30 a.m. multiple fire companies and ems respond. >> it was fully engulfed in fire and attempted to gain entry, they went to an exterior tact. >> it took about an hour to place the fire under control and firefighters located the couple in the living room where investigators believe the fire began. they had already perished. the victims are albert and his wife eileen. there was a power outage earlier this the evening and a neighbor told investigators that the homeowners had a candle burning inside and they believe that the fire was accidental. it's unclear if the smoke detectors worked. >> they say there was smoke detectors they

"action news" reporter katherine scott is live at that home in gloucester township. she's got more. good morning, katherine. >> reporter: good morning, tam. and the family here is okay but understandably very shaken up about what happened. there was somebody actually asleep in the basement when a nearby wall collapsed on that side of the house. ground water had seeped into the foundation and washed away the outside of the walls. all the weight from the mud collapsed the wall in. heavy rains and fierce storms ripped through our area overnight wreaking havoc on homes and in streets. in gloucester township, camden county authorities were called in after water pushed a basement wall in at this home on beverly drive. residents here called 911 around 2:00 a.m. firefighters and police responded. everyone got out safely on their own. restoration crews were now shoring up the home. in lower merion a tree came crashing down around 11:00 p.m. completely blocking city avenue near 66th street. for the next several hours, officers were turning around traffic until public works could arrive and re

"action news" reporter katherine scott is live at the scene. the 700 block of king's lane in bensalem where firefighters remain. katherine. >> reporter: that's right, matt, this couple was in their 80's. they were found dead on the scene here. fire crews are still here but they're starting to wrap up operations. they've been here throughout the night investigating and putting out hot spots here in bensalem. let's start with viewer video of the flames shooting from this home on the 700 block of king's lane overnight. the fire broke out shortly before 12:30 this morning. police and fire crews soon arrived. units from bensalem and bristol responded. firefighters were met with heavy flames and initially had to attack the flames from the exterior of the home. the smoke was thick. at one point fire officials say the second floor of the home started to partially collapse. it took about an hour to get this fire under control. the couple was then found on the first floor. they had already died. the cause of the fire remains under investigation. there wa

live in north philadelphia, katherine scott, channel6 "action news. tam. >> thank you katherine. >>> philadelphia police opened fire on an armed suspect after he allegedly shot at them on the 2200 block of north fairhill street in north philadelphia yesterday afternoon. police say the suspect was under the influence of narcotics. the suspect is now in the hospital in critical but stable condition. bullets also pierced the bedroom window of a home on the block but thankfully no one inside of that home was hit. we'll have much more on this in a live report coming up for you in the next half hour. >> the city of chester is on pace to greatly surpass last year's total number number of homicides. there have been 21 murders so far this year compared to 26 homicides in all of 2016. a handful of people were shot across the delaware county city last weekend. three of those shootings took place in a matter of 24 hours. mayor thaddeus kirkland feels the murder rate is a mere snapshot of a bigger unspoken problem. >> they focused on homicide rate but they don't f
