mike is here with another look. >> hi, kristen. we'll show you what's going on with satellite and radar to give you an idea of how gynormous this storm is. nearly 415 miles across as it goes from the rio grande irveil all the way up to almost baton rouge, louisiana. rainfall estimates already, about 8.5 around the center to 4.5 in bay city which is well far away from the center there in the upper center part of your television screen to nearing an inch in core puts kristi, and those are going to rapidly increase. right now the storm surge is about 2 feet. it's going to get up to about 12 feet, and it's expected to stay elevated for days. fresh water flooding because of the possibility of up to 35, nearly 3 feet of rain and tornadoes are going to be possible also. there are going to be towns that are going to be you be inhabitable for days to even weeks. the storm should crash sometime during our evening, say around 7:00 to 9:00 with major, major hurricane force winds of around 115 to 120 miles per hour. it's going to be awful, kris

so what is bannon's ouster mean for the white house agenda now, kristen? >> i'm not convinced that this means a ton of changes for the white house agenda in part because donald trump was donald trump long before steve bannon came on the scene. donald trump has always been a bit of an immigration hawk and always had these positions on trade at odds with the free trade part of the party. so certainly not having steve bannon there to walk into the west wing, to walk into the oval office to whisper in trump's ear may mean that other voices have but i'm not convinced that all of a sudden we see donald trump walk away from things like immigration and trade that he's talked about since long before steve bannon came on the scene. >> tara, for you, back on the agenda but steve bannon was really behind withdrawing from the paris climate accord. the travel ban. how does this affect the agenda? >> i think those aspects of the agenda as kristen said won't change because that -- trump is invested in those things. those were major campaign promises particularly on immigr

nbc's intelligence and national security reporter ken dilanian is joining us from washington and kristen welker. there's a grand jury that has been looking at anything that they needed to look at as it pertained to mike flynn and paul manafort. so why a new grand jury in d.c. today? >> well, one could be a matter of convenience. the grand jury that we have reported on having been active in this case was in alexandria, virginia, and mr. mueller is operating out of washington, d.c. what seems significant to this story though it says he impaneled a special grand jury for this case. there always is a grand jury sitting in any federal courthouse that's dealing with all manner of crimes and issuing indictments and prosecutors use grand juries very commonly as tools to subpoena documents. but if mueller has in fact impaneled his own separate grand jury just to focus on this russia case, that seems very significant. it does track with our own reporting that this investigation is picking up speed. is very serious. is focusing on the russia issue and anything related to it. and is not going to be

nbc kristen welker is at the white house. walk us through what you know and a little bit of the back story. >> that's right, hallie. the source familiar with the thinking inside the white house the president is expected to sign that russians sanctions bill and slap a new round of sanctions on iran and north korea. the reason this was so significant. this was a controversial piece of legislation. you have lawmakers effectively trying to tie the president's hand because the law says, under this new piece of legislation, which president is expected to sign that the president can't reverse these sanctions without congress' signoff. this underscores, i think, some of the tension surrounding the russia investigation, certainly. some of the president's past comments when it comes to russia, concerns on capitol hill that he has been too lenient when it comes to dealing with russia and this is a piece of legislation that passed overwhelmingly and, so, that is why to some extent the white house is saying we are not sure he wants to sig

kristen, start with where we are. this is just a day after john kelly was brought in as the chief of staff to try to bring some order to this white house and of course communications director anthony scaramucci was ousted. what are you hearing? >> reporter: this is the last headline they wanted, another russia-related headline they have to respond to. i reached out to white house officials late last night who referred us to the president's outside counsel, and that of course led to that statement that you read by jay sekulow who essentially said that some of the details of the reporting are inaccurate and not pertinent but relevant to point out he doesn't knock down the basic premise of the article. the fact that president trump was essentially dictating what this statement would say from his eldest son, donald trump jr. and that tone is different than what we heard from jay sekulow, who spoke to our own chuck todd two weeks ago. take listen. >> the president was not -- did not draft the response. the response was --

kristen. >> reporter: tony and shawn, good evening. the charges documents paint a much different picture in this case. a horrific crime involving to teens and all over cash police say. now, they tell us this is where the crime took place along this strahle here at adelphi park. during that time, 8 o'clock in the morning on july 27th. now, police say they were called there about a body that was found during their investigation they learned 14-year-old elias portillo and a 13-year-old boy approached the francisco sagastizado and demanded cash from him. we're told when sagastizado refused that's when portillo stabbed him several times. officers reasoned -- pronounced sagastizado dead at the scene. at that time they said they didn't have any suspects or persons of interest at that time. it wasn't until two weeks later on august 9th when police were interviewing a witness at the park and that witness then saw the two suspects, the two suspects walk by and pointed them out to police. now, police at first detained the juvenile and questioned
