jessica. >> reporter: good morning, michelle. parents on both sides of the issue packed a meeting here last night in pleasant hill. it lasted eight hours. the county board of education voted against it. the parents who want to secede from the district want to cut off five walnut creek schools that includes walnut acres, and several other students including the northgate high school cutting it out of mount diablo unified and form a new northgate unified school district. nearly 90 people spoke to the board of education. those in orange for secession, those in red against it. parents of the wealthier part of mount diablo unified have been talking about splitting from the district since 2014. they say it's overcrowded and financially strapped. but opponents of secession say this is a case of a wealthy largely white community in contra costa county trying to segregate itself. >> the trouble is that drawing the school district line between northgate and the other part will cement the segregation forever. >> what we are talking about he
