glenn, bring us up to date on hurricane jose first. >> jose is barely a hurricane and it's staying off shore, which is good news on both fronts. thunderstorms are developing near the center. so it's still a tropical system. it's tracking up to the north now and then it will go up to the northeast. the closest point to new jersey may be about 200 miles off shore for the center of it. but hurricanes are not just a point or a line on a map. they are big, big things and cover a wide area and that's why we're going to get some showers from it and we're going to get some gusty winds and coastal flooding. the more serious conditions at the jersey shore and delaware beaches, this is through thursday morning because it will take a while for the ocean to calm down, moderate coastal flooding at the time of high tide. tomorrow evening is when it's going to be worse at the shore. maria is a much stronger storm and krystal will tell but that. >> that was just upgraded to a category 4 hurricane. ly so look at the updated track here moving towards puerto rico into the early a.m. hours on wednesday. st

we got josÉ, we got maria. maria now a major category four hurricane that is lashing parts of the leeward islands. we'll start with josÉ which is just off the coast of north carolina. winds right now sustained at 75 miles an hour with this storm and this storm really taking on more characteristics like a nor'easter than a hurricane as it continues to lift to the north over colders waters but still a storm we've got to watch that's churning up the water, pressure 977 millibars moving to the north at 10 miles an hour with wind gusts near the center of the storm over the open waters, nowhere on the east coast will see gusts like this but still around 90 miles an hour. as we track josÉ, it's moving to the north again around 10 so by tomorrow afternoon, 2:00 p.m., still a category one hurricane as it is just off the coast of rehoboth beach and i say just off the coast, i mean it's a couple hundred miles to our east and the cone of uncertainty is mainly over the open waters. again the winds not the major concern. t

chief meteorologist tammie souza begins with jose's impact. >> we're watch jose still bringing in some bands of rain into delaware. clouds across the area. but you can see this still has enough of a spin. this is the center of the storm that's still fairly intense for a category one storm. that's sort of stationary brushing the shoreline. this is what we're expecting. we're expecting a track that's going to loopy loop and come back on itself. and then it loses the steering mechanism. it's going to wait for a nudge from maria as maria turns and comes close to the east coast. high pressure that's blocking it both to the east and west. something we're watch iing for the tide. this morning there was a minor flooding that we saw in atlantic city. but higher of the two tides today is going to come this evening. so 7:45 this evening, we could see a storm surge of water coming in. those things we'll be following closely. when i come back, we'll talk about perhaps what we are going to see right after the weekend dealing with jose. >> in the meantime, want to take you to the jersey shore for a l

jose is doing exactly what jose was expected to do. tracking slowing off the eastern seaboard more than 200 miles away and what this means the highest winds, the heaviest rain all centered around the storm itself. offshore however we are getting a fringe effect from jose. first of all in the form of showers in south jersey and delaware and some light showers moving across the i 95 corridor and not real heavy rain and pockets of more moderate showers moving through and also kicking up the winds and you see the one buoy in rehoboth reporting a wind gust of 37 miles per hour. and the main impact with jose is all the wave action stirring up the occasion at the center of the storm and wave heights of 26 feet and closer 11 foot waves at the shore causing beach erosion and coastal flooding and getting close to the next high tide cycle between 7:30 and 8:30 and this is when the coastal flooding will be worse. minor coastal flooding this morning and tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow morning. maria is a cat five and it lashed through dominica last

it's all because of jose. even though jose is weakening, now a tropical storm, spinning off shore. it will be lingering for days. through the weekend into next week off shore as it weakens. it's still going to cause problems today. this is the path it's going to

jose has minimal hurricanes. this is the track it has taken and we'll show you the track it will take up to the knot east which is fine keeping it well offshore and then doing a little loop and starting to move back. that's where things get especially interesting and could even interact with maria. we'll talk more about that coming up. >> hurricane jose is creating high waves and flooding at the jersey shore. ted is live and you have been checking the conditions at several shore points. >> reporter: yeah. more than three hours after this morning's high tide take a look at what's left here. you can see that the water is backed up onto the beach. a highly controversial beach projection project is underway. it has been plagued with drainage problems. we have video on the beach, ocean water up to the foot of new dunes that are part of that man dad project. you could clearly see how the surf is beating away at some of the rebuilt beaches. also this morning, title flooding. we found that in flood prone sections. some d

but that's it for josÉ. looking at josÉ here through tomorrow evening, it will start to move farther to the east. this is the latest updated track from the national hurricane center. watch what happens. it starts to loop back around over the weekend into monday. it looks like it's heading our direction. here is the thing. it will weaken considerably as it starts to track our way. high pressure over the weekend will actually build over us, which means we'll start warming up and we'll see more sunshine making it feel summerlike instead of fallike. tomorrow a high of 87 in fairmount. langhorne, high of 85. east end, high of 86. we're not going to be feeling josÉ tomorrow. sunny conditions. low 80s. while it might look inviting at the shore, we'll still have the moderate to high rip current risk due to the fact that josÉ is lurking to the east. delaware, dover, your high 85 degrees for tomorrow. then let's jump to your weekend. still very warm. slightly cooler on friday. low 80s across the board. partly cloud

hurricane josÉ still a category one. it did take a little jog toward the coast but then it started to push up away from hatteras and it still looks like it will be a category one and eventually a tropical storm as it comes up to our latitude and then spins around and starts to fall apart as an extra tropical low over the weekend. the shift of the track is a little bit farther away from us so we have dropped tropical storm watches along our beach fronts although the water just off the coast is still under tropical storm watches. and this storm is going to be with us the rest of today. also notice how the hurricane force winds diminish and stay well off the coast as we go through today and that tropical storm wind field, the tropical storm force winds a little bit farther away from us than they were yesterday. so, that's why we've got in watch dropped. then we still have some issues, rain isn't really a big one. as we take a look at future tracker6, the new model run you can see how most of this rain kind of skirts the coa

around here we're worried about hurricane josÉ. down in the u.s. virgin islands they are extremely worried about hurricane maria which is now a category five storm. that's a live look at saint croix in the u.s. virgin islands. they could see perhaps a landfall or very close to one from maria sometime later today and then up next, puerto rico which many viewers in our area have connections to. a lot of worry and particularly devastated areas from hurricane irma a few weeks ago down there in the caribbean. >>> two sets of police officers likely saved a pregnant woman's life not once but twice. this happened near the allegheny station in the city's kensington section late yesterday afternoon. two septa officers were patrolling the area when they came across an unconscious pregnant woman. they administered narcan to the woman twice before she regained consciousness. the officers say she refused medical treatment. 45 minutes later, the two officers saw the pregnant woman again unconscious and laying on the sidewalk. this time paramedics took her to the

jose is still a hurricane, jose is a hurricane i should say, it is about to the southwest of bermuda and 480 miles to the south/ southeast of cape hatteras, north carolina what we have noticed, two noticeable changes with the track of jose. one it is starting to shift to the east and also by the time it reaches our latitude it will be downgraded to a tropical storm. so here's the very late west jose. it is moving north at 6 miles an hour. as we put this into motion here notice tracks from what we aired earlier today, and even last night, it is shifting a little further east and also by the time it reaches our latitude this is more than likely going to be a tropical storm as we get into tuesday afternoon. nonetheless this is something we will be watching, as we go throughout the rest of our weekend. as far as chance of tropical storm wind on its closest path to our region it is a 10 percent chance of finding tropical storm force wind across the jersey shore even into the delaware beaches. we will keep you posted on that. back here at home certainly a great start to the last weekend of

here's where jose is currently. just off the coast line here up of 75 miles per hour, not a very well defined hurricane. more of a tropical cyclone. what that means is we'll see winds along the coast. tropical storm watches and warnings have been dropped in our area but they are still ongoing around the boston region. ocean city a wind advisory. beach ee recognition will be a big issue the next couple days from jose. now, maria obviously the bigger of the two. jose at one point was a category 4 off the coast of the island. jose made its way just to the north of the island. irma hit the northern islands. jose moved to the north of the island and now it got maria moving in toward the central portions of the leeward islands here. this is dominica. this is guadalupe. very, very populated island of guadalupe. upwards of 500,000 people there, and they will take a direct hit tonight. puerto rico in its sights next. puerto rico may see a direct hit, too. some of the latest observations category 4 as of 5:00 with 130 mile an
