firefighters, pg&e crews, schools, sports team. even people trying to avoid the heat by heading to the beach. they couldn't get away from the hot temperatures. ocean beach hits very high temps as well. tonight we have team coverage. >> in san francisco as we did talk, we have now updated the official high in san francisco to 106 degrees. that now makes it the hottest temperature ever experienced in downtown san francisco. last time it was close to this was 103 degrees back in june 2000. not only did we have the hot air moving in with the heat wave, but the smoke and haze pushing it across san francisco and adds a layer throughout downtown sf. and the heat bounces off of the smoke particles which increases the temperatures. plenty of other records set across the bay area. 1 110 in santa rosa. most of these records were way back in the 1950s. so tedecades here. put it into perspective here, las vegas had 103 for the high. and the desert hot air sitting over the desert. concord was 114. tracking more on this heat and how the trend is

we're talking about pg&e crews. one lineman has to gather as much gear from the truck as possible and fit them into the bins so they can be transported to florida. that means they're traveling light and fast. taking just what they need. safety gear and climbing gear and what is necessary to restore power after irma passes. in all, 100 pg&e workers including supervisor and support personnel are lending a hand. crews in the bay area will be on hand to henry store power. a crucial element for post disaster recovery. we talked with that lineman who says he is prepared to go. this morning, they are packing just the essentials to make sure to do the job safely. he is ready to go and lend a hand. >> just like all of us, i see the images on the news and i'm very, very honored to be able to go do something actually there, doing something, working with my hands, a presence to help. it feels awesome. >> reporter: yeah. cisco telling me also should he is excited and never advice to be going. he will be sharing what he is doing

the power is still off but the fire department was able to just douse these trees after pg and e cut to the power line. some of those leaves are completely browned and it is smokey and they're still ashes burning in the air. fire crews were able to get in there and get the power cut and douse this town. the dangerous situation that happened is these trees are so drought stricken and dry that due to the power line going into the tree we were watching sparks fly and we saw embers and ashes flying to the neighborhood and this is right next to a temple, temple emanuel, they said for a while overnight this temple was threatened and fire crews stayed there as they waited for pg&e to get out here and cut the power so they could move in. >> reporter: on the drive and we saw a lot of debris and small trees and branches as we drove near the construction zone we saw cones knocked all over the road and one tree that we came across was split in half blocking emory street in san jose. we spoke with a neighbor that lives near there and he said he was extremely concerned after hearing his trees crea
