biggest, the tubbs fire is threat earning the city of calistoga. the flames jumped highway 29 late last night. it has already burned over 34,000 acres. jackie ward joins us with more on the firefight. >> reporter: we are in downtown calistoga where people should be out getting coffee before they head to work. they should be driving down this street but as you can see, no one is here this morning except first responders and law enforcement. now, the city of calistoga is under an evacuate but zero flames have touched the city and cal fire is hoping to keep it that way. the tubbs fire is 10% contained, 34,000 acres burned. flames jumped highway 29 in one location yesterday. cal fire was able to find a turnout barely wide enough for the water tenders and strike teams to park but set backfires to choke off the fuel to stop the advance. the water tenders carry a tank with thousands and thousands of gallons of water. they are doing everything they can to prevent tubbs from spreading into calistoga. the city of calistoga is a ghost town right now and that'

helena to calistoga. that mountain is on fire and that mountain is the reason why the evacuations here in calistoga were absolutely necessary. we found helicopters staten island after army chinook helicopters fetching hundreds of gallons of water this morning at a time from agricultural retention ponds just north of calistoga's east side. it's been a day long rotation of chopper after chopper taking their huge bags of water from here to the west side of the napa river where mount st. helena rises above the valley. they were precision dumping their loads on a smoke over fire that's rapidly climbing the mountain. at the top of the mountain, a large group of contract and inmate hand crews were taking positions near the summit. they come from cal fire. the u.s. forest service and the national park service. there's one reason and one reason only to have this much fire power here at the top of st. helena to keep it from getting over the top and should it get over the top, they can run right down the mountain in
