christien kafton is in san francisco. this happened at a safeway store. what do you know? >> reporter: good morning. this happened at a safeway store on seventh avenue in the richmond district. you can see employees are starting to arrive for work this morning. a few hours ago this was the scene of a vicious and bloody fight. according to police this started around 12:30 am. the suspect was inside the store and witnesses say he was shoplifting or attempting to shoplift. an employee tried to stop the man. that's when the suspect set his dog on the employee. the dog bit the worker several times. the suspect also pulled a weapon and began stabbing the worker. at some point other employees rushed in and the suspect tried to stab them as well and then took off. the victim was taken to an area hospital with serious, life- threatening injuries. police caught up with the suspect and have arrested him.
