fso conducts the full scale emergency exercises once a year. the one that just wrapped up a few hours ago at terminal one at the airport was actually a simulation of a terrorist attack involving an active shooter, a coincidence given what happened in las vegas. their planned the scenario well in advance to the shooting that took place in january. the ft. lauderdale airport that left five people dead. the airport tried to make the exercise seem as real as possible. they deployed smoke, played sounds of gunfire and explosions. 60 people volunteered to be passengers, some in make up to simulate injuries. the goal was to test the staff and other agencies to provide aid. to test the first responders to the point of failure. >> at the end of tonight's exercise, we are going to do a hot wash, a debriefing, talk about what worked well and what didn't work well. we use exercises like this to continuely improve and inhans procedures. >> reporter: the airport points out the government only requires these drills once every three years. fso says they choose

it was 91 degrees at fso. across the board temperatures are anywhere between 10 and 20 degrees above normal for this time of year. the flip side is that the hot dry conditions. also waiting for fire danger. a lot of people as you can image are on edge. >> our concern is this is our driest time of the year. the felids are dried out and they are ready to burn if we have some wind or a fire start this is a heightened sense of awareness especially with the heat we are having right now. >>reporter: the good news is that the winds are relatively calm today. not much in the way of breezes that we can take note of out here. no red flag warnings in place. still as you can image firefighters are on high alert. we'll bring it to a live picture. you can see the lights approaching in the distance. a nice bike ride this morning heading towards the golden gait bridge. it will be slightly cooler today compared to yesterday. we'll get into the details tomorrow morning. the real cool down will get underway this weekend. >> all

if you get enough of a northerly breeze, fso north at 13. the key is higher elevations in the valley. fairfield 17, gusts almost to 30. everybody is in on the sun. we are on the western edge of a dry system. it's not dry in the yellowstone area. there will be good snow there in parts of the north were rockies. not for us. we get sun. but that wind coming down is going to be giving us a high fire danger. october, with usually start to see a lot of these posted. you get wild fluctuations in the temps as well. santa rosa is 60. 44 in lakeport. 52 half-moon bay. 64 livermore, 56 for san jose. and alameda 65. anywhere from 62 to 64. oak and berkeley a couple observations, 56 and 64 in san francisco. areas not that far apart. big differences in the temps. 64el sabrante. 64 american canyon. that breeze holding many of these temps up. ucaya is at 43. sacramento 59. out of the north that breeze will be with us. today the system will backtrack over us, bring in cooler conditions. but a lot of sun this week. once that kicks out, then we'll start a warm
