mike nicco continuing to track that for us. >> hi, everybody. the good news, the winds weren't as bad as sunday night and we didn't expect them to be but they're still gusting and have been staying mainly up in the higher elevations. you can see right here about 20 to 25 miles per hour in our high er areas. it's about 3 in napa but that will change once the sun comes up. the breezes will pick up temporarily this morning before tapering later this afternoon. it's not nearly as cool as it was yesterday. we had mid-30s. we're in the mid-40s, low 40s to around 50 degrees so it's a little bit warmer. the humidity is not as robust. we're in the 50 to 70 range, whereas yesterday we were in the 80 to 100% range. now, as we go through the day it's going to be hard to breathe so we'll look at the spare the air and air quality coming up next and the breezes will taper by 4:00. temperatures in the 60s at the coast, low to mid-70s for the rest of us. how about the commute, alexis? >> reporte >> we do have road closures in the north bay. we did have the lates

mike nicco? >> the storm that's going to bring us much needed rain and started by sending the table this morning with sea breeze and the mist and drizzle we had. look at the wind barbs pointing to the east on live doppler 7. rain starting to head into california way up there near the border but at least making some progress. stuck in the pacific northwest all day yesterday. here's what i am thinking. a light storm with sprinkles possible the next hour or so. and then we see some showers that will turn into a steady rain during the evening and overnight hours. and it will be a little breezy from time to time but i don't think it will be much in the way of damage with 15 to 30-mile-per-hour winds. this is the way it looks from emeryville. just got to coerce them into giving up goodies and they will in the form of sprinkles. mainly gray at noon and sprinkles everywhere. north baby 4:00. we'll have showers everywhere by 8:00 and steady rain moving into the north bay then and by midnight, everyone dea

let's check in with mike nicco. mike, are conditions going to be any better for fire today? >> i think a little bit. just because the winds aren't going to be as fast, but the most ideal conditions will be with that rain that's going to come in thursday and friday and the cooler air that it's going to bring in. also you can see the boulder creek fire there or what we're calling the bear fire. >> bear fire. >> bear fire. okay. we're hashtagging it bear fire on twitter if you want to follow us there. you can see that it was strong enough at times radar was picking it up as it was throwing enough ember and smoke into the air. let's take a look at what it's doing as far as our current conditions and there is no real measuring spot right there, there is no official one, but all around it we're trying to guest mate elevation, lower elevations, the humidity is a little bit higher, the temperature is a little cooler in the 40s and 50s, up in the mills where they will be fighting the fire temperatures about 69, no wind and humidity, 23%. i decided to do the forecast in the hills beca

mike nicco is keeping an eye on the impact that smoke is having for all of us. mike. >> yeah, it's all of us. nobody can escape it and that's why we've been focusing so much on the air quality whether schools being closed or people upset that their kids are being forced to go to school through the air. let me show you the latest map. and you can see the red taking over all about all of the neighborhoods. look at the yellow around saint rosa, because of the northerly winds blowing to the south, you've escaped the worst of the air quality. but you are definitely importing it or exporting it to the rest of us as we look at mt. tam. unhealthy everywhere except santa clara valley, it is poor there. unhealthy means everything is beginning to feel the effects. and this is kind of like day three, so each day we keep breathing this poor air, it will be more detrimental to our health. in fact it will hang around throughout weekend and possibly into next week before a chance of rain rolls in. i'll tell you about that coming up. >>> okay. a good samaritan steps up to help a

abc 7 news meteorologist is monitoring air conditions right now with mike nicco. mike, in addition to the air quality, of course, we're concerned about the winds for fire fighting. >> yeah, we'll start with air quality and get to the winds. hi, kristen, hi, everybody. here's a look from sutra tower. the air quality is getting worse by the moment. as we've got some high clouds that have settled over the area. kind of put a little bit of a lid on the atmosphere. it's a spare the air today with the north bay. there you see in orange. in the coast and central bay, see in yellow having unhealthy air for everybody. everybody else moderate right now. that could change. thanks to that northerly surface breeze and the westerly upper air breeze. once the smoke gets above 8,000 feet. there's a possibility that it could start moving to the west. all right. what we're going to deal with as we head deeper into the forecast is more poor air quality at least through tomorrow. let me show you what's going on quickly with that fire. winds are around 1 to 8 miles per hour. that's be

let's go over to mike nicco for an update. >> let's talk about what's going on as far as looking outside and what you're going to see on the visibility there is that it's pretty thick, the fog, i should pretty thick, the fog, i should say smoke actually around napa. 1 one and a quarter mile visibility. today as far as your temperatures, they will be a little bit cooler and a lower fire danger, but still unhealthy air as we have a spare the air day. it's going to be breezy again the next two nights in the north bay mountains, so today is our perfect day for fighting the fires, but tonight and tomorrow night, the winds are going to whip up once again. will they be like last night or the night before i should say, sunday night, no, but they will still be around 35 to 45 miles per hour which means we could have more spot fires and the fires could spread. we will get cooler air as we head later on into the week. mid 60s along the coast, 71 san francisco, 74 to 77 around the bay and 78 to 82 inland. here is a look from the east ba roads today, mass transit cool to warm and light breezes if you

if there are any out there, let's check in with mike nicco on the forecast. >> jessica, reggie, that was a good if there are any winds out there, that was a good statement there, jessica. hi, everybody, let me start off by saying this is not and will not be a repeat of what we dealt with in the north bay. we just do not have the environmental weather or wind conditions to do it. right now there are no wind, but the temperature up at about 1600 to 1800 feet it's 69 degrees, a little warm, humidity is about 23% so it is bone dry out there. what you're seeing right now is this is a chimney kind of fire. it is climbing up the valley walls due to the chimney effect because the hot air rises and as the hot air rises it dries out the registration above it and that makes the ignition a lot easier. here is what's going to happen this afternoon, we will get a breeze, it will come out of the northwest and blow at 9, so like lexington hills, the summit, 17 we will probably get a little smoky this afternoon. temperature will be 84, going to be warmer and humidity will be 22%. i'm not saying this
