let's have us join randy sutton, former las vegas police officer himself. part of the police force for 30 years. mr. sutton, thank you for being with us today. i want to start with, you know that the mandalay bay is iconic around the strip. how do you get into a place like that with the kind of weaponry that he had and go unnoticed since september 28th, i can only imagine people like yourself and law enforcement have to be talking about that on the ground right now. >> yes, thank you for having me, i appreciate it. are talking about this horrific event. i think probably what he did, he surreptitiously smuggled weapons in and possibly a golf bag or he may have disassembled them and had them in his luggage and reassembled them. he had ten weapons that have been reported, so that did not happen overnight. he has been bringing them up to his room, it had to be several trips. but do not forget that he must have had a ton of ammunition, and of course that is very, very heavy stuff. so he must have planned and plotted this for a good long time. >> harris: the scop

charles: joining me now, randy sutton. sutton. randy, let me start with you. one of the things that stood out was the sheriff and others talking about this term target hardening. we heard that there is nothing that can be done for a situation like this. it's a one-off. but it's not preventable. as long as we live in a free society where we value our freedom and value not living under a surveillance state, there is only so much we can do. remember that people come to las vegas as in every tourist destination to relax and let their hair down, and if we do some of the more radical things that have been suggested like search the luggage or scan each piece of luggage that comes into the hotel. it will create massive delays. and it won't be stood for by patrons. there can be additional surveillance. there are steps that will be examined. >> early on his female come and yont sheriff said perhaps was his girlfriend. now it seems they are bringing her back in as a potential suspect considering the number of weapons found in the hotel and the house, and the ammonium nit

randy sutton, one of the things we're learning too this new york plot that was stopped by authorities that could have been a big one aimed at inflicting mass casualties, starting in subway stations and going beyond even the times square is that the goal remains the same. no matter whether you're part of isis or just a lone nut you want to kill as many people as possible so in crowded cities, and venues where a lot of people are gathering, for example, at the baseball playoff games or tomorrow in chicago for the marathon what do you do? >> you know, this is the aim of terrorism is to change the way of life of our country, to change the way of life of our people, to have them second guessing themselves when they walk out and they're looking around. that is their goal. the best thing that we could do as americans as free people is to live our lives and don't be paranoid but be prepared. preparation not paranoia. be situationally aware. of you see something say something. as it was pointed out a little bit earlier on one of the other shows nothing happens in a vacuum and i think the frust

former fbi assistant, ron hosco and randy sutton. randy, what do you think authorities are trying to put together? i know through security cams and the like they'll trace his steps. but most notably to see if he worked with others, right? >> this is going to be one of the most exhaustive investigations in law enforcement history. with the scope and the depth of this crime. law enforcement will be going through every part of this individual's life. every device that he has, every phone, every computer. his home, any storage units. they're going to need to try to determine what the motivation was here. not because of a criminal justice reason, because he's already dead. he took the coward's way out. he wasn't even -- he wasn't even brave enough to face law enforcement after killing all of those innocent people. but they're going to want to determine the motivation. because if we are to -- if law enforcement is to give any solace or any sense of closure to these victims, they're going to need to know why this individual did what he did.

former las vegas metro police officer, randy sutton. randy, these developments change. i don't think anyone is hiding anything, but more revelations of advanced warning here. what do you make of that? >> i'm actually troubled by it, neil, to tell you the truth. the fact of the matter is if there were police officers on the property when this shooting took place, they were actually down in the security office while dealing with a couple of trespassers. so that, there is a critical six minutes that could have, that could have been, could have changed the outcome perhaps. when the maintenance worker was fired upon, that was the clip that you just heard? neil: right. >> that was about six minutes before the actual bloodbath started. so if, if those officers had been told by security during that, you know, when the report first came out, there may have been a different outcome. of course, it is all, it is all conjecture at this point but still it's a little troubling. neil: here is where you can help me, my friend. indulge me on some basic questions. what would procedure be,

we have her attorney, emily and randy sutton on the developments. emily, i'm sure these are the type of cases that we see come as a result of this. now the curiosity of the security guard in this case who was shot at before the shooting took place. in other words, not after. how does that change things and for a legal case, how does that make those injured or the families of those killed have a better case or does it? >> it does and here's why. the huge issue of culpability hinging on for seeability. if the victims can show that this act was preventible, that means that the casino is on the hook then. the alleged six minutes that were in between a security guard being shot before the shooter started shooting in the crowd, depending on what other evidence comes to light, that is what can be the crux of this. that is also why here this is among the strongest of the lawsuits, these plaintiffs are filing, as we know, they have filed against a bump stock manufacturers, stephen paddock's estate, live nation, et cetera. all of those have different feasibil

we are going to go to former las vegas field lieutenant randy sutton. i guess the first thing would i like to ask you, have you been in contact with anybody from the department? can you gives an update on what has happened? >> this has been a chaotic scene. at first reports it came out as self shooters, now apparently it has been determined there was only one shooter. and he was isolated in the mandalay bay hotel. reports are that he is down. i believe he either committed suicide or was taken out by law enforcement. i heard some of the radio traffic from the officers when they were closing in on him. the effective rang -- this was fully automatic gunfire. this is not a semiautomatic weapon. you can tell by the sound of gunfire. the effective rang of som -- the effective range of some of these weapons down to where the people were hit, but the effective range of that weapon if it was an ak-47 or some other type of fully automatic assault weapon, that would be the effective firing range. that would mean this individual was well trained and had experience

here is retired las vegas police lieutenant randy sutton. seems like mgm and the police have a different timeline. what do you make of that? >> i find it very disturbing, between this new information, which is the first time we heard about this maintenance worker. it has been a week now, over a week. and then secondly, the information that the security officer campos was shot before any of the shooting took place, and there is apparently a six-minute delay between getting that information and relaying it. now keep in mind, what is really important here, that there were two metro officers in the security office at the time of the shooting, and they actually ran out of the building, because the information that they got was that the shooter was at the, at the event across the street. so that delay is really important here. if the, if the information had been communicated directly to those police officers, then, they could have, they could have, there may have been a different outcome to this. this is really important stuff. david: lieutenant,

i tried las vegas metropolitan police officer randy sutton on the telephone. >> hayek, things are unfolding rather quickly write now. i just received information that this e-mail, that they are seeking was an employee of the mandalay bay. that indicated how the weapons were brought in. lauren:.female, marilou danley, the roommate of the shooter who is now dead was an employee of the mandalay bay. that certainly changes the story, cheryl. cheryl: it does. also getting an update that the freeways have been closed around the area, the offerings between sahara avenue. that is a good sign for those that are waking up to this horrific scene in las vegas. it's monday morning so they are starting to reopen the area appear to want to ask you quick as the investigation unfolds, what do you think they will be focusing him now? do you think they'll be looking at the shooter himself from the reason he did this or is it more of a broader picture, an outside group that might have influenced the shooter? >> the answer to that is all of the above. all stops are pulled out on this one. there is a tremendous

steve: let's bring in randy sutton a former las vegas police officer right now. randy, i'm sure you have seen the video. have you heard the audio of the gunshots. what can you tell from what i know a let of it is speculation at this point. what can you tell us about the particular gun used? >> well, it was clearly a fully automatic women. i have been monitoring the situation since it began. this individual had numerous weapons in the room. this was a clearly premeditated attack. in order to be that effective as he was with that weapon, this individual had to have some significant training. the fact that he got hold of a fully loaded automatic weapon is very, very disturbing. he had an excellent field of fire tactically. he was very sound in that he chose his target particularly soft target with people concentrated in a very small area with that fully automatic weapon from that distance and from that elevation. he maximized what the damage he could do. steve: where would somebody get a gun like that fully automatic? >> in order to get it -- purchase it legally, yo
