rosemary: good morning, i'm rosemary connors for "nbc10 @issue." politicians choosing their votes, it's a problem the non-partisan group fair districts pa believes is happening in pennsylvania as a result of redistricting or the redrawing of voting districts. fair districts pa says here's what can go wrong with redistricting. legislators work with no oversight or standards for fairness. they can accept money from outside interests that target pennsylvania because of lax campaign finance laws. they redraw boundaries to keep their seats in office secure, resulting in voting districts that benefit the party, not the people. groups like fair districts pa point to pennsylvania's 7th congressional district. it includes parts of montgomery county, chester county, and all the way into lancaster county. here's how the district has changed over the past 60 years. it now has the nickname goofy kicking donald. can you see it? earlier this summer, the league of women voters sued to have pennsylvania's congressional district map thrown out. the suit claims that

fill us in, katy. >> reporter: hi, rosemary. some would argue this is one of the worst weekends for the closure because so many people use the northeast extension to go to and from the poconos to see all of the fall foilaliage colors. we're getting into the height of those seasonal colors. take a look behind me, this is the start of that very hefty detour. like every other driver this morning we were forced off of the northeast extension at the lehigh valley interchange, which is exit 56 if you're headed north. now, southbound drivers taking the northeast extension are being forced off at the pocono interchange. now, this detour lasts until monday morning. in total it effects about 40 miles of the northeast extension while crews repair a bridge which we're told has structural problems. now, the detour to get around this roadwork will take over an hour. that is the detour. and there are signs posted all along the route. coming up at 6:00 we spoke to some drivers and they offered their best advice for getting around the detour. we

krystal. >> hey, rosemary, yeah. so many of us aren't actually going to see rain today, but we do have that dreary feel across the entire region. this is the day after friday the 13th, right? so here's a look at radar and satellite. the cloud layer, satellite is hard to see but we do have clouds in place over pretty much the entire area. a lot of them low clouds too and even some patchy fog. now, on top of that we have a few sprinkles that are kind of brushing up against parts of the jersey shore and just an isolated shower that may develop over parts of the delaware beaches here. and that chance is going to remain through today, particularly the first half of the day. but all this moisture itself is kind of wrapping out this way and it's going to start pushing out east which means it's pulling away from us. still, we'll keep with the clouds today for more of a gray day than a sunny day. tomorrow, the sunshine is a better chance of really breaking through. how about temperatures? they are warmer than yesterday at thi

i'm rosemary connors. it's 5:30 right now. let's begin with that weekend weather because it's going to be gorgeous out there. meteorologist krystal klei has some good news for us. krystal, fill us in. >> if you're a fan of the 70s, they're not going anywhere. and we're starting out not terribly cold at least for most of us. in the 40s in mt. holly and a few areas in the pennsylvania suburbs on the chilly side, but look at coatesville, wilmington, upper 40s to around 50 degrees, that is not a bad start for temperatures. here's look at radar and satellite view. clear as can be again. we don't have a cloud to track. no rain to worry about in this forecast. at least not for a few more days. of course this has to come to a stop sooner or later. and as we get into your next workweek that's when we will see a chance of rain return. how about those temperatures? so, on our friday we have a high of 74 degrees. average this time of year is mid 60s. look at today, we're talking upper 70s in the forecast. as we go to sunday we'll drop to

rosemary orozco in for steve today. >> yes. we will take better steps towards better weather in the coming days, eventually wet weather. that will really help with the fire suppression and the fire fight. the current conditions right now out there towards the santa cruz mountains, we have talked about it a bit. the winds are generally light. the flow continues from the north/northeast. the fire is right about in here, which is pushing that  smoke towards areas near perhaps boulder creek. may have some floating over areas towards felton. then going off towards areas of the pacific. into the afternoon, we will have a switch in the winds and the winds will turn west. when they do, we could actually see the smoke drift in this direction, towards scotts valley and up towards areas like san jose, sunnyvale. right now we're calling for moderate air quality over portions of the south bay. with the fire burning, that could change over the course of the afternoon. a southwesterly breeze in some areas. but the winds are so light that we

randy. >> reporter: hey, good morning, rosemary. from here in old city all the way up to north philly you're going to find signs just like this, no stopping, no parking, because of philadelphia free streets. what it means is you're actually able to walk out into the intersection wherever you want from here on third street in chestnut all the way up to fairhill. let me show you what's happening now. crews up early setting up the stage because there's going to be a big ribbon cutting here as well as a power walk led by mayor jim kenney. that begins here at third and chestnut about 9:00 this morning. the closures will then ride north up third and fourth streets onto germantown avenue, into north philly and ending all the way up in fairhill. no cars allowed. and all along this route are free events like yoga, dancing, handball and workouts. it's the city's second experiment getting rid of cars, but this is the first time it actually extends into north philly away from center city. and most folks we talk to say it's a good chance to get

i'm rosemary connors. it's 7:00 on this sunday. let's start with our weekend weather. krystal klei is tracking the ups downs of our forecast. >>> from this look it looks like another -- kind of day. it really wasn't bad. we've been having mornings of fog, of mist. we sunshine. today we're going to see that even more so. this is a live view current. there are some thin fog out there and then this very cloudy sky overhead. and that's the case for everyone. some of us see more densely packed fog right now. let's talk temperatures. we are much warmer than we should be for this point in the year. closer to the average high. 66 in philadelphia. we're at 65 in mt. holly. compare this to yesterday morning and we're warmer than yesterday morning and yesterday in the afternoon we made it to the 70s. temperatures will climb on up to the 80s. it's at 67. that's average. we will get back to it and actually below it monday into tuesday. >> we'll see you shortly. thanks, krystal. now to the crisis in puerto rico. dozens

they were at the country music festival with their mother rosemarie. a bullet hit rosemarie. paige was grazed but a let as well. their mother is still in critical condition. thank you for being here. steve, let me just start with you. how is rosemarie doing? i know she just got out of her second surgery. how is she doing? >> she's doing better. she's still critical. still can't talk to her. she is still on life support with a ventilator. after talking with her doctor she had more damage than we thought. she has developed a complication with her kidneys. her kidneys were also injured because of the loss of blood, the amount of the loss of blood to her kidneys. how the doctors are addressing that issue. but they're optimistic and hopeful that she will overcome the situation with her kidneys. the bullet passed through right about here. from the trajectory from the 32nd floor, went through her body and ended up in her an dough phe abdomen. it penetrated her stomach, it penetrated her spleen, and it also penetrated her lung and her liver took the brunt of the force of the bullet.

let's turn things over to rosemary orozco. >>> it took a few days. we had record-breaking heat at the start of the week but eventually tempers began to come down. we will continue that trend into the weekend. eventually we will be back into the low 70s coming even for inland communities. here is a view of the satellite and radar. obviously it's drive. i think we will be drive for the next several days. at least through halloween. the fog is back along the coast. it's very shallow. we had a shot a half hour ago with a creeping under the golden gate bridge. it's there and moving into the bay area. over the next few days that will influence our weather. the west breeze will come back stronger with each day. here's a look at the futurecast models for the weekend. tomorrow we wake up with low clouds at the coast. if you are going to the coast, it will be cooler with the low clouds and fog there is an advisory for rip currents. if you are going to spend time at the coast, be aware. into saturday afternoon, we are mostly sunny away from the coast. into sund

i'm rosemary connors. it's 6:30. let's begin with our weekend weather because we do have some changes in store. summerlike temperatures for the day ahead. >> if you were outside yesterday you might have noticed yesterday afternoon actually wasn't bad at all even though it started with some showers and very cloudy conditions. the sunshine even broke through and we made our way into the 70s. today similar to yesterday a little more extreme. temperatures will be warmer. right now we do have clouds in place. radar and satellite showing that off. we don't have much in terms of rain. temperatures, this is a warm start to the morning for this time of year. we haven't even had to talk about that at all. millville, 68 degrees to start so this is no that later today we'll be looking at upper 70s and even low 80s which is way warmer than average. average would be those 60s that you see right now. the mid-70s at lunch time and upper 70s to, like i mentioned, low for highs today. >>> happening now four members are heading to puer

i'm rosemary connors. it's 5:30 on this sunday. thanks for being with us. meteorologist krystal klei is tracking misty weather and a big warm-up for the day. krystal? >>> we are beginning with cloudy conditions across the region. we have a lot of misting going on. misting is occurring because we have moisture pretty high right now in our air. that combined with the fact temperatures have lowered a bit means the dew point is matching. fog and mist at the ground. though that's not showing up on radar, it was so fine. it was making everything damp outside. look at the temperatures. we're at 66 in philadelphia and 68 in millville. even though 60s further north and west. we're starting out a little on the warmer side especially for this time of year. as we go along into the afternoon hours that will allow for a warmer afternoon, too. yesterday beautiful in the afternoon. temperatures were in the 70s. today some of us will make our way to the low 80s. let's look at the conditions the next few hours. in philly we're at 66 degrees and some of the misting is reporti

i'm rosemary connors. let's start with that weekend weather. meteorologist krystal klei is watching the gray skies outside. she promises they will change in the afternoon. >>> when you see this picture it looks unwelcoming, dreary. just in the last handful of hours we've gotten rid of much of the fog and this is more of a bright gray than it was a couple hours ago when it was dark still. the clouds are just starting to thin a little bit. they will continue as we go through the rest of our morning hours and by the afternoon the sun will break through at least in pockets. here is the radar and satellite. a layer of clouds over us. in terms of rain, no issues. there's still some misting in a few spots where fog is more dense. but that should start to weaken, die down as well over the next couple of hours as we start to heat things up. right now temperatures are pretty warm, 6 in northeast tiltil ly philly and millville. pots down 55 degrees. this is typically the high on an october day. but we're going to pump it up to the upper 70s, even low 80s
