( robin ) and there is the atlas fire burning in napa and solano counties. this is the fire burning just south of lake berryessa. it has now burned more than 51-thousand acres but it is now 65% contained. fire fighters say that favorable weather conditions over the weekend aided firefighters. any hong is here with a look at the conditions they will be facing today. it was decimated by the tubbs fire. people that live just walks away from this have finally gotten a chance to go home. we caught up with a few homeowners. they evacuated monday morning not knowing what they would turn to. >> we work to get all of these things. and all the time and energy that it represents. really what it was was -- my wife and i are safe and so are our cats. >> one of the problems facing santa rosa is the gas line. the ones that renter coffey park are quite damaged. governor jerry brown says he has never seen anything like this. he took a tour of the damage in sonoma county yesterday along with u.s. senator dianne feinstein and kamala harris. they all pledged financial assistance. kpix5's jackie ward was at a community meeting where elected leaders spoke to people in need. >> at a community meeting in a gym at santa rosa high school, hundreds were there to get answers and express their concerns. one of those people was jeannie morrison who lives in the bennett ridge area. she was not home when the fir

as quick update, as of right now, on the tubbs fire, we're at 2 27,10% containment. evacuations in and around the north part of santa rosa. last night, up around calistoga. activity on the fire today has been pretty quiet. the northeast corner of the fire is where the activity has been and where we had some runs with the southwest winds. that's been held in check and our crews are actively up there working to hold that fire in and around red hill mountain. for the pocket incident, currently, approximately 5,000 acres, it has been active this afternoon. zero percent containment. the activity is on the south end of the fire today. as some of you might have seen, these fires pushed to the north. we had a wind shift that was predicted. now they're moving south. the area of geyserville are all under evacuations. i would like to talk briefly about some of the fires down in sonoma county, the south portion, that are currently being managed by the south branch. we are currently in transition discussions to pull all the fires in sonoma county into branch two under this comman

that is the tubbs fire. that is the fire that on sunday night also moved westward down into the hills above santa rosa and eventually into the city streets of santa rosa. this fire, according to officials, has burned 34,000 acres and is 10% contained. we've seen a number of airdrops in this area already this afternoon both fire retardant and water. over all, cal fire officials said they have dropped a record 300,000+ gallons of fire retardant on dozens of missions. not just in sonoma county but also in napa county. >>> national guardsmen and women are playing important roles. more california national guard crews arrived at moffett field. these are the 129th rescue wing and 146th airlift team arriving shortly before midnight. the team consists of 100 guardsmen and women from the los alamitos area or long beach. the team will provide support and shelters in napa and solano county. >>> the california national guard is helping firefighters from the air. charles schultz airport is serving as the hub for a black c

the tubbs fire, which is off to the north had crossed over 128. it's these hot spots that could blow embers into downtown calistoga and that's why you have the mandatory evacuations in place. the wind is just starting to pick up. if you're there and thinking the wind is not that bad i'm going to stay, that's not the thing to do. the wind is certainly going to be getting a lot worse. right now as we get a wider look at the wind across the north bay, it's the highest here gusting to 16 in santa rosa and no novato. all this wind is pushing from the north to the south. that's why all the bay area has dealt with the smoke today even on down to morgan hill and gi gilroy. humidity 5 to 15%. poor air quality for everyone. let's zone in on that wind. you can see 11:00 p.m. generally 10 to 15 miles an hour for the bay area. it's tomorrow morning, this is the time zone. you have to watch out if you're near a fire. 2:30 in the morning, 22 in france. right afternoon 7:00 in the morning we could see up to 29 in napa. 22 in san francisco and 22 in san jose. we'l

the tubbs fire burning in sonoma and napa counties has burned more than 36-thousand acres, and it is 87-percent contained. and the pocket fire burning north of geyserville in sonoma county has burned more than 12- thousand acres and is now 58- percent contained. more than 11-thousand firefighters are on the front lines. fires across the state have burned more than 245-thousand acres since last week according to cal fire. the tubbs is 60% contained. the pocket and nuns fire are 25% contained. power outages are another big issue of the wildfires. they are making progress on g getting the lights back on. more than 300,000 customers lost power. only 23,000 people are without power. 18,000 in is a sonoma county. >> right now dispatchers are badly needed. police tweeted that 93 shifts of dispatchers have been filled by 24 outside agencies. it's part of the mutual aid resources. some of the dispatchers have come from as far as menlow park, redwood city. >> the fight to contain and extinguish the flames is not over. want to show you new numbers. since monday, aircraft across the state have dropped over 2 million gallons of retardant to try to help aid firefighters on the ground. many of the tankers have been flying into wine country. as you see on this graph, wednesday and thursday have the heaviest workload. that may be because of two days of the most favorable weather conditions from the air. >> governor jerry brown toured some of the worst hit areas of santa rosa by air and on

we have the tubbs fire that is just to the north of santa rosa. we have seen parts of santa rosa burning and south of that, the nuns fire and the sears fire. the atlas fire that is now starting to spread into solano county and the partrick fire. a lot to monitor here. the morning hours, the best time for firefighters to get containment. the humidity is higher, the winds are lighter. that's exactly what we are seeing right now. mostly calm winds at this point. as we go through the day, the winds will start out from the east-northeast, then shift as we go into the evening. that's why the morning time is the best for cal fire. this morning, humidity is in the upper 60s. so, that is a huge improvement over yesterday. we started out yesterday morning, it was windy and the humidity was down in the teens. so, it looked pretty good as far as more relative humidity this morning. as we go through the day, it's still going to be really smokey in the north bay. dangerous air quality, smoke and haze dripping by and unhealthy for the rest of the bay area with t

the tubbs fire... which ravaged santa rosa... has burned nearly 37-thousand acres... it is 94-percent. and the pocket fire has burned 17- thousand acres.. it is 85- percent contained. ( jr stone ) in the santa cruz mountains.... fire fighters are gaining the upper hand in the "bear fire" near boulder creek. according to cal fire... it is now 75- percent contained. the fire has scorced nearly 400 acres. a total of nine people have been injured -- including 6 firefighters. everyone is expected to be okay. the fire has destroyed four structures. cal fire says the rough terrain and heavy timber in the area is making it harder to reach full containment.
