now working in california. california is often viewed as an outlier, you know, you some youn california doesn't always make it over the rockies and you gone from a place where democrats have almost no power to place were democrats control everything. what lessons do you think are not reaching these political lessons that might be worthwhile to consider? >> they will reach the rest of the country. what happens in california altima happens in the rest of the nation. as goes california, so goes the nation. just sometimes it takes a little while. we were in the throes of this immigration debate a couple of decades ago, proposition 187 in 1994 s at that integrate a measure as you will find. it passed by 60% in california. it propelled republican governor pete wilson to reelection at a time when he was losing in the polls. and so we were there, been there done that. that's a great thing, it's past tense. i think the rest of the nation will get there as well. once they do they will find that it's better to have clean

for southern california it is sending the offshore wind that way. here is a look at the ridge. the way the wind direction is flowing it's still coming from the east to the west, but as you look at the wind streamlines on this map, you can see a lot calmer conditions for southern california, there is a low bringing moisture to mexico, but this high is not allowing that move up and bring any moisture to the southern california area, red flag warnings have been expired for san diego county, but parts of la, century counties are under red flag warning until 8:00 today. higher elevations has wind gusts today. 35 miles per hour. not the extreme winds last week. humidity at five percent. the way the wind direction blowing is ending up in the bay area. we are under a dry area letter since friday we've been under one. unhealthy for along the coast and parts of the north bay as some of the haze settled in the valley area. it's not smoke, it's this how we are doing during the december month, this is what happens in the particulate matter in the area. north it's stronger there in berkeley

our top story once again is the fires in southern california. crews from around the state are now battling those wildfires . the three fires currently burning in los angeles and ventura counties have burned nearly 80,000 acres. two firefighters have been hurt while battling the creek fire in the northern san fernando valley and tens of thousands of people have been forced out of their homes. fire investigators say it is likely hundreds of homes have already burned. there is no containment on two of the fires. five percent containment on the one burning near the magic at an amusement park. >>> the biggest of the three fires starting monday night near san polly in ventura county. the wind is quickly pushed it toward the city of ventura . >> it has burned 78 square miles as of this morning. our reporter allison barber is at the fire scene right now. tell us about the wind. is it still a big problem? >> reporter: officials are worried it will be today. they say the ventura county sheriff's office has said they want air support up once the sun comes

crews are in southern california helping to fight the devastating fires. and that includes a team from santa clara county. we spoke with the captain who is we spoke with the captain who is on the front lines right now. good morning, matt. >> reporter: good morning, natasha. we're here in the city of santa clara. they and several other firefighters from all across the bay area are in southern california getting an up close look at those flames as they tried to stop them from moving forward. you can see what's happening in southern california. this is from engine 90 at the thomas fire. firefighters are on structure protection and say the wind driven embers are over 75 miles an hour and make for tenuous conditions. the city is part of two strike teams from santa clara county that includes firefighters from san jose, milpitas, the county, palo alto and morgan hill. captain bill murphy talked to us from the front lines of the thomas fire. only two months ago captain murphy informs a similar firefight in santa rosa. >> probably the biggest difference would be th
