jill stein is outfront with us tonight. the green party candidate. jill, thank you for coming on. >> good to be with you, pam. >> first question, what is your response to the intelligence committee looking into whether your campaign was colluded with russia? >> i think it's great to clear the air. that picture has been circulated, sort of a factless photograph that's been used to smear our campaign for a part of a year. it surfaced a year after the event itself, which was back in 2015. once the dnc, the democratic national committee e-mails were leaked and, you know, suddenly, you know, there was an effort to change the topic from the collusion of the democratic party to eliminate bernie sanders, which was, essentially a rigged primary. there was an effort to divert attention and the picture of my attendance at a conference, actually at rt, russia today tv station. who else was there? the bbc was there. the national networks for china, for india, the canadian broadcasting system. this was a conference, about foreign policy issues. i was delighted to

know we saw them go after randy greedy go we saw them go after and now we're seeing them go after joel stein and basically anybody who you know is against the status quo of how things are supposed to be in the kind of two party dictatorship and what really upsets me is in the process of all of that. they ignore the real issues that is most important to this country is the poverty is the deal the equality issues that we're having in this country who of whilst of the un special rapporteur i mentioned earlier pointed out that while the us is one of the wealthiest countries in the world with major technical innovations and a workforce with an incredible work ethic the way in which those quoted saying the way in which those in the bottom twenty percent of the population exist is in dramatic contrast to the well that is in the country and is being further exacerbated by current trends he even goes on to say that the us infant mortality rate is the highest in the developed world the highest that americans can expect to live shorter and sicker lives than in any other rich democracy that inequality l

remember jill stein? this woman ran as the green party nominee for president. the senate intelligence committee contacted the stein committee as part of the russia investigation. lawmakers contacted him last week to request documents he thinks stein plans to comply and post the documents publicly. stein attended the 2015 dinner where former national security advisor michael flynn and russian president vladimir putin were president. she said her interaction was minimal. >>> paul manafort is planning a christmas in was charged with money laundering and other related to his work for a pro political part in the ukraine, pleaded not guilty and been on house arrest while awaiting trial. a federal judge said manafort can visit for the holidays but he must provide a complete itinerary for his trip, including dates times and addresses where he will visit hissin laws. >>> next we're talking more about today's speech from the president and what's next when it comes to national security policy. ja meal j, a ferty joining me next. . >>> what does this mean, we have not seen

jill stein. you'll recall she was seated with michael flynn and vladimir putin at the 2015 dinner banquet in russia. this morning, we can ask jill stein about that evening. she joins me live from boston. dr. stein, good morning. you said you were invited to speak at that dinner where you were photographed with putin and mike flynn. who invited you and who paid for that trip? >> so my campaign paid for the trip, including our airfare, my hotel, our food, all the rest of it. and the panel actually took place during the day. this was a conference about media and international relations. as you know, there are and were during the campaign very critical issues and high on my agenda was a weapons embargo to the middle east, freezing the bank accounts of those countries who continue to sponsor terrorism like saudi arabia. and nuclear weapons abolition and climate change. so those were my issues. it's all on the web actually, that conference, and my panel is still on the web. you can see the video of it

so ben stein, what do you make of this and what people do? it's obvious what you see what you net in your check and obviously the benefits of the corporate tax cut that you have had for some time, then what? >> ben: well i think people will see the benefits of the corporate tax cut immediately and are already seeing it in the skyrocketing stock market and that benefits everyone even people who don't have stock directly through their ira's, pension plans, children's university endowments all a big benefit but what i keep noticing is nobody pays any attention to the deficit. nobody pays any attention at all simply just wished it out of existence. it's not going to go away and and eventually i little live to see it but my granddaughter whose a beautiful wonderful little girl will live to see this country go through bankruptcy and i'm scared. >> hopefully ben if we get 3.5% growth it will go away. neil: this is ben's granddaughter i don't think she needs it. >> his granddaughter? neil: france has got the double doppler gdp of latin america. >> 3.

ben stein what do you make of this? you know, that's the way its been for as long as we remember they always had these budgets on the brink, and then they do something but it's all about kicking the can down the road, but we avoid a crisis in the meantime. >> ben: well it was the greatest possible respect i think congress kept much much respect that's due they work very very hard, they're not paid very much , they are really really struggling to get all of the things they need done, ballots that respect consistency with respect for the whole country. i very much appreciate our congressmen. i've seen them up close and personal. i've seen how hard they work and i don't believe that this is a problem of the laziness of the individual congressmen. i think the problem is divided government, the constitution sets it up as it's endless confrontation, endless non-stop between the executives and congressional and i don't think that's a bad thing. i'm a great fan of congress even when it involves closed shaved cut downs. >> neil:

i got to ask you about jill stein. buzz feed is reporting that the senate intelligence committee is looking into jill stein, of course, former green party candidate. she attended that dinner in 2015. we've all seen the picture with russian president vladimir putin and mike flynn also at that dinner. what can we make from this development? >> it's unclear right now what we can make of it. we do know that jill stein's vote totals at the end, you know, the russians were buying facebook ads as folks have reported to support jill stein, that jill stein was a third party candidate who didn't get a lot of votes but who did change the calculus at the end in a tight race in the election and the dinner is certainly of interest to investigators. i think they're basically trying to figure out what jill stein, was her campaign contacted by the russians. did she have any interactions with any russians or what did she know about any potential activities to help her or to discredit others. but i don't know at this point if we know how

what did stein do getting all this attention? in 2015 she had the gull to attend a dinner in moscow with vladimir putin himself that was sponsored by the television network russia today which, of course, makes her rosenberg. joe concha writes for the hill and he joins us tonight. joe, here is what struck me about this story, many things. but, one, here you have a political candidate, a politician going to a dinner sponsored by news organization. i don't want r.t. okay. i don't agree with r.t., but it is a news organization. it's no causier tha cause crazin others ones out there. she is being investigated by the congress. there is no media outcry at all. everyone acts like this is totally normal. where are reporters in defending the freedom of the press they often say they believe n this case? >> well, because they are distracted by the blame anybody but hillary clinton for losing the 2016 election, i mean, let's think about this now. we have had bernie sanders, james comey, matt lauer, sexism, right resentment all blamed for hill

with the russians with stein's campaign. stein's campaign did put out a statement overnight saying the meeting they had overseas sponsored by rt, the television network, was an effort to go and talk about some of the shared values that they had, denying that there was any collusion whatsoever, but interestingly, even though richard burr seemed to suggest they're looking into some other campaigns, mark warner said there are more questions for trump officials and wants members of the committee to interview some of the trump associates who have only been interviewed by staff of the committee and he also said that there are still some questions about the june 2016 trump tower meeting. he said there's still one individual that the committee has not yet met with. he doesn't see this investigation wrapping any time soon, guys. >> the president thinks it will and thinks he will get a letter exonerating him. >> running to the mailbox right now. >> all right. manu, we appreciate the reporting as always. that's fascinating coming from

one campaign is that of jill stein's. joining us now is 2016 green party candidate, jill stein. thank you very much for being here. >> great to be with you, alisyn. >> what is the story behind that photo taken at that state dinner? >> the story is pretty straightforward. as you mentioned, i was there for a conference basically on international international relations and the role of media by the state tv networks for india, china, and many other countries around the world. it was a very interesting conference and it's all up on the web. you can see exactly what went on. the dinner was really a formality. i was seated at the table with other diplomats, basically, from china -- not china, but from germany and from the czech republic. when vladimir putin came in very late in the dinner, he was accompanied by three or four men who i assumed were his bodyguards. i later learned they were not his bodyguards, they were his inner circle, but nobody knew that because nobody was introduced, and i was only able to talk to my right and the german chancellor was the only one within earshot t

joining us now to respond to the story is former green party presidential candidate jill stein. thank you for being with us today. >> good to be with you, richard. >> how would you respond to what congressman quigley said? >> i think it's very important to let the truth get out and get the facts on the table. that photograph that circulated, a factless photograph, really created the presumption of guilt because of the story that got falsely attached to it, and that story was that my campaign was accepting support, contributions of some sort from the kremlin, which is absolutely false. and the myth that there was even a conversation at that table. in fact there was no translator at the table. putin came in briefly with an entourage that i thought was his body guards. turns out they were actually his inner circle. no one was introduced to anyone. no communication between the russian speakers and the english speakers. i spent the evening speaking with a german diplomat to my right. most of the foreign political people were seated at that head people really just as a formality. the

ben stein. good to see you. >> honor to be here. trish: i could get how the president can fix this and that's the good news in a second. first of all i want to start with just. the lobbying money in washington and what the private equity industry has effectively done here which i would say, sir, is by -- buy themselves a tax cut. walk us through why this is wrong? >> that is just the way washington operates. the way politics operates. people need money for campaigns. they need money for staffs and live a nice life. people in private equity have lots and lots of money, can give it to them. this started out a long time ago, trish. this started out with oil companies. they originated carried interest rule. the carried interest rule which sounds more complicated than it is, allows to you deduct if you had invested money when you really invested labor and thoughts and ideas. therefore taxed at capital gains rates and ordinary income tax rates when you get paid off for these things. the difference is stupendous when you talk about people

with reaction to the verdict, mark stein joins us. this remind you of a verdict 20 years ago in a case that was equally politicized. the o.j. simpson murder case. i want to read a quote from one of the lawyers representing this man who is a murderer who was just acquitted. he said: this case is used to foment hate, decision and a program of mass deportation." it sounds like this whole thing was recast as a political statement rather than a murder trial. that's the end of justice, isn't it? it trials can be subverted by national politics, there is no hope for justice, right? >> i think it's a miscarriage of justice in the profoundest sense. kate steinle is dead because she went for a walk in a popular destination in her own city. her parents will never see anybody convicted for that crime. there is no dispute -- this is slightly different from the o.j. case. at least he pretended to be looking for the real killers for the last 20 years. there is no dispute that this guy actually fired the shot or picked up the gun that shot itself, and
