abc 7 news reporter matt keller live in san jose, matt. >> reporter: reggie, i contacted san jose police and they say there is no arrest to report at this time. and that is why san jose police officers are here on campus making their presence felt. it would be difficult to pretend the morning drop off at harker middle school in san jose was normal today. that's because the reality is, several police officers and their patrol cars were keeping watch a little more than 24 hours after a female employee was sexual assaulted and robbed inside a classroom. >> yeah, it's fine. we feel reassured and we feel that they are doing everything they can. >> reporter: san jose police released a surveillance video of the suspect. they say this man snuck on to the campus and committed the crime around 6:30 tuesday morning, an hour before students started showing up. our media partner reports the victim is a teacher and arrived early to prepare for school after winter break. when police arrived, the man was gone. neighbors were shaken by the news. >> this was such a safe neighborhood, and now i never thoug

this is the private school here in san jose. san jose police released this surveillance video. again, they're hoping that someone recognizes the man you see here. he broke onto the school campus. and you can see him in the video wandering and pacing around the hallways. around 6:30, he walked into a classroom where a female worker was working and he sexually assaulted her and robbed her. the man left the area. police say the victim did not recognize him or know him prior to this crime, but the surveillance video is fairly clear and you can see that the suspect is a taller, heavy set man dressed in baggy clothing. police say he's 5'9" and in his 20s. you can tell from the video that the man his a distinct and unusual walk. >> it's not your typical walk. this guy, you know, someone is going to be able to say that's so and so. that's what we're hoping for. this guy needs to be identified and taken off the street as soon as possible. >> police don't know if the man works or lives nearby. but they are planning on increases patrols near the school and you can't see it from where we a

live in san jose, pete suratos, nbc bay area news. >> all right. pete, hopefully they find him soon. thank you. >>> a new and disturbing twist in a recent arrest of a north bay man accused of peeping through the bedroom window of an 11-year-old santa rosa girl. authorities individually booked the man on a misdemeanor charge nearly two weeks ago, but now police believe cortez and the girl exchange numerous messages on snapchat. some were sexual in nature. he was rearrested and faces sexual assault charges. >>> new at 11:00. arrest numbers from local law enforcement. the santa rosa chp says that they made 22 dui arrests over the new year's weekend. officers made 14 arrests over the christmas weekend. those are up as the chp usually makes about 12 dui arrests per weekend. between november 22nd and january 2nd, santa rosa police made 74 dui arrests, up from 64 in the same period last year. >>> happening today. the head of homeland security department is set for a visit to the bay area. she will visit neighborhoods damaged in the north bay wildfires. se

san jose is among them. kpix 5's jessica flores explains. >> reporter: rumors of those widespread raids, they have been spreading for weeks now as talk of immigration heats up at the national level. the trump administration has been singling out california because of being a sanctuary state. cities and counties are rolling out a plan in the event of these raids. now, today they are announcing a plan called the rapid response network. it's a 24/7 hotline to report i.c.e. activity. there will be over 600 volunteers to help illegal immigrants about to be deported. they will help make sure there are no unlawful arrests and also to make sure people know their rights. now, meanwhile, in washington, dc, we know we're back at square one with the daca debate. the daca debate continues. republicans and democrats can't agree on the legislation that would shield from deportation immigrants brought to the country illegally as children. >> it's hard to go to the school and be prepared for disaster. >> reporter: now, in or

just the build through san jose. over in the east bay a smooth flow of traffic, a little build for avenues over toward -- well, around the east bay i should say. southbound 880 buildings towards the san mateo bridge, that's why you see the orange number at the bottom. the top number is in red down the east shore freeway, it fluctuates between 1 hour and 45 minutes off and on. we had the earlier disabled vehicle and another crash at the bay bridge toll plaza all have cleared but that added to more congestion toward berkeley. things are smoothing out and that's a better drive. this is a tuesday, so the east shore freeway they expect it to be like that. >> so wednesday what do you think? >> right around the corner is the weekend. >> we are looking forward to the weekend and a little bit more rain across the bay area, there will be one day where you don't have to worry about the rain and that's south. it's going to be cool, though, with high temperatures in the low to mid 50s. we will be in between those storm systems so
