jeanette. >> reporter: good morning, matt. just over the past hour just incredible to hear the details that have come out as police continue to investigate this double home invasion. it's clear these victims are lucky to be alive. i'm going to step out of the way so you can see the scene. it is now cleared but i want to show you those evidence markers right in front of the home where this happened. that is the shell casings from the six or seven gunshots that were fired early this morning at one of the victims. this is the video from earlier in the day. now, we are hearing that this was a double home invasion. the suspect first broke into a basement unit where he encountered a 57-year-old man, pistol whipped him depended cash and drugs and went on to ransack the home. that victim played dead and when that suspect was not looking, he managed to escape the home but that suspect ran after him, fired several shots at him, managed to miss him. that's when the suspect went back to the home, broke into an upper unit where he encounte

jeanette, you just imagine her standing there going what happened? >> reporter: that's right, tam, an innocent bystander, she's one of three people shot, one man is fighting for his life this morning, two others injured including that woman. and she was hit as you mentioned by a stray bullet. this is video from overnight. this happened at 25th and sheridan in north philadelphia around 6:30 in the evening. police say all three victims were standing on the sidewalk when the 24-year-old was hit twice in the arm. a 23-year-old woman was hit in the arm and back with a stray bullet. and the third victim was struck in the head. that man was in critical condition when he was taken to the hospital. detectives spent much of the morning looking over the corner store's surveillance video where this all happened hoping to identify the shooter. >> two male victims were just standing just feet away from the shooter when the shooter walked up, pulled a firearm and immediately fired numerous shots from point blank range. >> reporter: and not much is known about the g

good morning, jeanette. >> reporter: good morning, matt. this morning the investigation into the sudden death of a police officer continues. we know that veteran police officer was that found dead along with a male acquaintance. police say this police officer was discovered in this home here in port richmond along the 2900 block of mercer just afternoon. she was found with a male acquaintance who was also dead. the 36-year-old officer and 42-year-old man both had no signs of obvious trauma. neighbors told "action news" that the 14 year veteran was working -- worked in the first districts and was well liked loved animals and was heavily involved in the community. investigators were looking for evidence and processing the scene while neighbors looked on. later on in the afternoon marked police cars and detectives followed the ambulance that transported the officer's body to the medical examiner's office. take a listen. >> don't usually have too much stuff going on around here so something like that is a bit of a shock. just want to know what

good morning, jeanette. >> reporter: tam, good morning. police say these shots were fired at point blank range and now this morning one man is fighting for his life, two others recovering from gunshot wounds. that one woman, the only female victim we're told was hit by stray bullets. this is video from the scene yesterday. this happened at 25th and sheridan in north philadelphia around 6:30 in the evening. police say all three victims were standing on the sidewalk when the 24-year-old was hit twice in the arm. a 23-year-old woman was hit in the arm and back with a stray bullet and the third victim was struck in the head. that person, that man, is in critical condition. detectives spent much of the evening looking over the corner store surveillance video hoping to identify the shooter. >> the two male victims were just standing just feet away from the shooter. when the shooter walked up, pulled a firearm and immediately fired numerous shots from point blank range. >> reporter: and the gunman was last seen running eastbound from the scene. n

jeanette reyes is live outside the police headquarters with reaction to the murder. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, tam, much of the tragedy is a mystery to police. it was a hail of gunfire most of the bullets aimed at the drivers side door. this morning a 23-year-old woman was dead. >> she was not involved in what was going on with the gun play. she was just driving down the street. >> reporter: police say the victim suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced by medics at the scene. five people were in the car including children ages 3 and 4, and the victim's twin sister. all were injured in the crash, but only 9 driver was shot. authorities believe someone in the car opened fire on the van traveling northbound on broad street. the shots came from the 5800 block of broad. the driver lost control and crossed over several lanes of traffic and crashed into the build on old york road. >> appears the van was struck five times by gunfire. we found five bullet holes on the he drivers side of the van s well as driver door. that's how the 23-year-old was shot. >> s

"action news" broke the story yesterday morning. philadelphia police say the suspects were driving around with the 34-year-old victim for hours and they were texting the man's family demanding $10,000. the ordeal came to an end on the 5400 block of westford road. the suspects reportedly poured gasoline on the victim and set him on fire. he survived suffering second and third degree burns to half his body. police do not think this victim was picked at random. >> 5:36 now. happeni

good morning, jeanette. >> reporter: good morning, tam. well, this official is saying the best solution is to arm personnel in the schools. now, this idea is hardly anything new. however it crops up every time we see a mass shooting but his reasoning, he says, is just a matter of stopping the threat as soon as possible. after yet another deadly months school shooting a proposal that is sure to spark heated discussion. superintendent michael chitwood is proposing a controversial program called the save our children initiative. it would allow preselected teachers or other personnel to conceal carry guns in school. the idea is that they could stop the threat in case of an attack and save countless lives. chitwood says school shootings typically last three to five minutes and it takes police about that long to just arrive on scene. >> bottom line is by the time we get there, the threat is already over. so, my thought is as follows and it's got to be a national thing. it can't be isolated to particular communities. >> reporter: under pennsylvan

jeanette reyes is following the investigation, she joins us live from the scene in the olney section of philadelphia. jennette. well, sarah, minutes before the newscast we got additional disturbing details from the police. at the intersection of benefiter and harbison, the victim was held at gunpoint and abducted four miles away. he was brought to west bird road where he was doused with gasoline and put in the car bound and set on fire. >> looked out the window, a heard a woman scream and then i saw a car on fire. >> around 5:30 a.m., neighbors along 5400 block of we say -- west ford road in olney heard the screams of a woman. >> i heard a woman was assaulted, i went to get my phone and called 911. >> reporter: witness it is realize it was a man on fired and trapped inside. the 34-year-old witness was tan from the car and his hands were bound. burnt pieces of the victim's clothing lay strewn across the sidewalk. he was rushed to the hospital with second and third degree burns to 50% of the body. investigators examined the charred grand plea car as evidence. >> >> i was very devastate
