(pam) new at 6... the totals are in for u-c berkeley -- the school spent a pretty penny on protecting free speech events on campus last year. the university revealed a bill of almost 4 - million dollars... to bring in outside police, rent equipment, and other security costs for "free speech month" last september. berkeley says, it split the costs with the u-c presidents office. the most costly event was the september 24th to 27th event called "free speech week," .... organized by controversial right wing figure milo yian-nopolous. that event was eventually canceled.... after the university spent nearly 3- million on security. (steve) in the south bay... one of the largest homeless encampments in san jose is being cleaned out. about 100 people showed up to protest caltrans' clearing at 4 am this morning. they say the city as well as the tech companies are not doing enough to address homelessness. now comes the task of cleaning up a mess that one crew member described as nothing short of "shocking." kron
