he said it was a sad and tough day for porter. he pointed to porter's claims of innocence. he wished him a wonderful career. here with me is kellyanne conway. thanks so much for being here. i know you have been outspoken on the subject of domestic violence and other topics for a long time. long before you and president trump hooked up. you found out this week about the allegations against rob porter by his two ex-wives. what was your reaction when you first haeeard? >> i was horrified and also very shocked. as many people have noted, jake, this is not the rob porter we worked with in the white house, but once you see the allegations as put forth, and the photographic evidence, and you say speaking to the fbi, it was very clear that rob resigned very swiftly, and was out the very next day. i think people should look to the result. what is the result here? the result is that one week ago, rob porter was a top aide to president trump, and today he is out of the white house. >> but the initial reaction from the white house was to stand by porter. the chief of staff put out a st

porter himself. and for reporters. in which porter on background relayed his version of events and fielded questions from the crew. politico also reports the three communication staffers present at that meeting including sarah huckabee sanders did not dispute that white house chief of staff john kelly urged porter to stay after all this has come out, urged porter to stay accord to a person familiar with the exchange. kelly was asked last night if the white house should have handled the porter situation differently. his response and i quote, no, it was all done right. jonathan lemire is from the "associated press" and political analyst. asawin suebsaeng. >> is that the view in the white house, this was all done right. >> that's the view that kelly is trying to put forth. there are many others in the west wing who don't feel that way. this is a moment where john kelly grip on his position is most tenuous since he took the job. president trump has been calling to inform allies, those folks he calls every night sort of ask

porter denies the allegations. and the second, i was shocked by the new allegations released today against rob porter. there is no place for domestic violence in our society. i stand by my previous comments of the rob porter that i have come to know since becoming chief of staff, and believe individual deserves the right to defend their reputation. i accepted his resignation earlier today, and will ensure a swift and orderly transition. two things. he knew and is lying about not knowing. or he didn't know and that may be even more troubling. because this man, rob porter, saw the most sensitive classified information because he is the passthrough to the president. he didn't even have permanent clearance. and we don't know why. either way, this is bad. >> right. and there's a buck stops here question as well when you talk about the chief of staff and the white house and what he should have known. especially when talking about standard questions in a background process. they interview ex-wives. if there's allegations

and we got roy porter, after onkelly has known for quite some time the allegations against rob porter, said he's a man of great honor and integrity. >> that just doesn't hold any water in terms of the investigation. there is that photograph we've seen. had even a cursory due diligence process been undertaken not by the fbi but by members of the white house administration, it is fairly evident at this point that both these women would have spoken about these allegations that have sought to raise alarm about these allegations about his history. what i'm most troubled by in the story is the focus on john kelly. that somehow this is a condemnation of his ability to bring order to the white house. this is black and white. it could not be more simple. accused of abusing not one, but two ex-wives. there's photographic evidence. they've spoken to multiple other people about it. this is when you go out there and say this has no place in our white house, this has no place in the administration. i don't care if you use the word "terminated." i don't care if you use the word "resigned." this is u
