((steve))a scare in the air for passengers onboard a united airlines flight from sfo to hawaii.((vicki))the cover over an engine came off midair.fortunately the pilots were able to land safely.((dbl bx))kron 4's charles clifford is live at sfo with the details...charles? these are pictures taken by passengers on the flight. you can see the the engine is exposed. we don't yet know why the cover came off or where the plane was when it happened. it appears from the pictures that they were at pretty high altitude.now, the missing cover caused the engine to start vibrating and that led to the pilots declaring an emergency.now we also have video taken by passengers showing the frightening moments just before they landed. the flight crew had everyone brace for impact by putting their heads in their arms and leaning forward. fortunately, the plane was able to land safely. as a precaution aircraft rescue & fire fighting crews at the airport in honolulu were deployed out onto the runway as a precaution.the passengers were allowed to deplane at the gate and then plane was moved to hanger w
