and good to be with you and asha. i'll start by saying you're right, lack of candor in the fbi is a serious offense and something that every fbi employee from day one is drilled into them that if you lack candor, which is your currency in this agency, and you're no longer of use to this organization, you're done. the organization is based on truth. here is a problem here with the issue of andy mccabe and, you know, full disclosure, i work for andy as his special assistant. let me put that out on the table. i think there has been a tremendous disservice done to him here, we can hold in our heads two thoughts. the first of which being that it is possible that he lacks candor in which case he should suffer the full consequences for that. the second thing is that this service has been done not only to him, but to the american people, because essentially what the attorney general is asking is trust me, we're going to put out a press release, very, you know, lacking in detail, mainly focused on process, and saying trust me

in the meantime, joining me former fbi special agent asha rangappa. let's start with "the new york times." there's nothing illegal about asking a witness after the fact what you were asked as part of an investigation. people do that. lawyers often do that more than people that might be the focus of an investigation. it does happen. what gets interesting is that the president's conversation with don mcgahn, the white house special counsel where he asked don mcgahn to issue a correction about the story that the president told him to fire the special counsel. he said i can't do that because it's not true. does this fit into the issue of a possible pattern of obstruction? >> yes, so once again, mueller is going to have to establish a corrupt intent that the president had when he fired james comey, that he wanted this investigation, the russia investigation to go away because he's trying to hide something or cover something up, for example. so, yes, what he asked mcgahn to do does fit into a pattern. john, he had gone previously to the nsa and cia to ask t

they are by nature exposed to lots of opportunities for exactly the type of think asha just talked about, that it creates a risk they're out there doing business with these types of individuals. i don't see how it could be anything but inevitable that some foreign power would try to ex-employed that, to leverage them or influence them. >> asha, one other bit of nous has to do with andy mccabe, the former deputy director of the fbi. there's a justice department inspector general review going on. both "the washington post" and "new york times" are reporting andy mccabe is going to be faulted for improper media disclosures. that's essentially leeaking in some form or fashion. it doesn't have to do with donald trump. it has to do with the clinton campaign and the clinton foundation. still, is this something that will give the fbi a headache? >> it will. the fbi needs to be non-partisan and not seen as political one way or the other. whenever you have a senior official -- express or influence or do anything with their political views outside the scope of their private lives, this allegation t
