after two failed attempts, henry ford finally finds success with ford motor company when ford himself was 40 years old. this is a time when many were happily settled in their careers, but ford was willing to keep risking things in the auto industry, and of course, it would pay off for him. the first vehicle, fairly modest. he just started off with the model a in 1903. it was very much what you might call a horseless carriage. it does not look necessarily like a car you would recognize today. the engine is not under the hood to read there is no good. the engine sits under the drivers seat. you can't see it. but you can see the small port off to the side, and that is where you would insert the crank to turn the engine and get it running. the engine is actually transversely mounted, which means these cylinder banks are running perpendicular to the drive shaft. in this car, it's not even a drive shaft the way we would know it today. it is change or event. a lot of bicycle technology with these early automobiles. -- it is chain driven. this was a time when the average annual wage was somet
