james freeman, from "the wall street journal." they are both fox news contributors. james, amazon, intel, twitter on friday, the market is on a tear. what do you think? >> news is really good. we have concerns. we're obviously concerned about how trade disputes will get resolved. people were wondering about rising costs, maybe inflation, will that hit earnings but you're not seeing any of those problems in these results on earnings. and on revenues. it is just a lot of great news. obviously everyone expecting even more good news friday with the gdp report. right now the economy is humming. there is no other way to put it. melissa: gary, when they talk about forward guidance, what is coming next quarter, do they seem concerned about tariffs? are you worried that this friday number could disappoint? expectations are so high for gdp? >> well, couple of companies are using excuse of tariffs. i believe whirlpool came out and coughed one up and few others. i'm not worried right now. i worry if we go to 200 billion, 300 billion, 500 billion like the president said. as far a

james freeman, "wall street journal." both of whom fox news contributors. gary, i think the market may look at the supreme court pick. we know that this will yet be another very pro-business or pro-individual rights which translates to pro-business person on the supreme court. a lost decisions coming his way. maybe that is one reason markets are are up? >> since the election, two words, business-friendly. for eight years we did not have business-friendly. i think that could be part of the equation. this is a market ththat's been teflon. all we had was five to six-month correction after gargantuan run into january. i don't know if we're off to the races here but definitely the tone is better. i watch certain groups carefully. financials put in a good low, the semiconductors another important group, they're starting to roll again. think we're in pretty good shape entering earnings season. david: james, you don't fight the tape. even president trump as he was flying to europe he tweeted out something about how europe's budget deficit with the united states is

maria: here's james freeman. >> tomorrow we're expecting very good earnings from banks. there's good economy, interest rates are low. they're going to give back capital to shareholders. ten years after the financial crisis, a lot of the reforms you wanted never happened. are you comfortable? are you nervous as rates rise, as we get to, i don't want to say the next financial crisis, who knows, but how strong do you think the system is for the next time we hit turbulence. >> we have a whole lot more capital in the system than we had before the crisis. my guess is the market would have demanded that without what dodd-frank did. i still have some fear that capital levels may still be inadequate. that was the whole thrust of the financial choice act. that was a tradeoff for a high level of loss of capital to be traded off for a much, much lower regulatory burden. we've probably got some percentage of that in the 2155 s-2155 legislation that the president signed into late in may. with respect to community and regional banks they saw some of that relief. i don't think we're qui

and back with us is james freeman. nan, i'll start with you. i tell people we have what i'm calling the trump slam. tiger woods never won all four majors in a calendar year. the last four quarters at 3.1%, we have proven it can be done over four quarters, but can it be done over four years? >> if the gop can successfully remind voters that this could come to something of a screeching halt if we go back to the bad old policies of the previous administration. the president has been deregulating from day one. and that made a tremendous difference to business certainty in the right way. if they know they are getting less, that's why capital expenditures are up. wages are rising. this is fantastic. but it could go down hill if we don't keep these policies going. charles: eric, what do you think? how sustainable ways we saw friday? >> i think it's very sustainable. i think it's sustainable for many reasons. regulation is a big piece. but this is a new paradigm. we are at a different level of equilibrium for many reasons, despite the fact you don't ha

we are back with dan henninger, columnist mary o'grady and james freeman. mary, how strong is the u.s. economy right now? >> i think we are in a sweet spot here, not only the numbers that you mentioned but wages are moving up not as much as we would like to see them. they should be getting over 3% a year but they are at 2.7, good news. other good thing about the report is labor participation moved up a little bit. i think that's still a problem and as long as you have low-wage labor participation, i'm afraid that maybe that's going to hold back growth. so that's probably one to have bigger problems. paul: big number, 600,000 entering the workforce, long-time unemployed. pretty interesting. >> absolutely, we have, again, labor participation 62.9% below 63% and it's kind of been hanging below there really since the 2008 financial crisis. paul: james, let me ask you about trade because that's a huge issue, the tariffs with china beginning back and forth. how worried are you that this is going to effect the momentum that mary is talking about and the economy? >

we are back with james freeman, kim - - and bill mcgurn. how seriously should we take this threat to impeach rod rosenstein? >> even though the word this week was impeachment, the word everyone was all that was contempt. mark meadows, the head of the freedom caucus after they filed those articles of impeachment and after paul ryan said he disagreed, he gave a little talk. he said he spent the day with leadership. that his group was backing off impeachment but what everyone decided and rallied around, if they come back after their break in august and the department of justice is still not compliant, they will rally around a contempt resolution against rod rosenstein and the department of justice. which is probably a more accurate description of what's been going on rather than high crimes and misdemeanors. >>paul: contempt is no small thing. congress, if they took it far enough, could call for the arrest of someone who's in contempt of congress. you made a really strong argument in your columns that if congress doesn't enforce its subpoenas,
