mark: from london, i am mark barton. etf friday time, julie hyman is etfor etf -- and senior analyst. ago, theve months infamous vix spike in february marked the peak of vix etp mania. we have seen the volume be cut nearly in half from 75 billion dollars a month to $40 billion. talk us through this aftermath of that. eric: most of the drop in volume came from the inverse vick's etp site. that took out $15 billion in monthly volume with it. the one that was surviving, svxy, that one took down about 10 billion in monthly volume. it kind of repelled both of its investors. i think the hard-core people did not like the fact that they went from inverse one time to inverse .5. they cut their exposure in half. up in the past few months and nobody cares. it is one of the ones i was surprised about. collectively, 25 billion in vix etp volume essentially gone, which is good news for people worried about this area. julie: we have a chart that you were talking about, the big drop in price and you see the volumes on the bottom basical

is that what you see, mark? mark: i think we certainly could see that. we could see an increase in issuance across the m&a spectrum that starts to heat up. remember, it takes time for these deals to come together. we had a big pause coming into february, so i think we will probably see some better issuance in the second half. given the technicals, we have had 33 weeks of outflows in how yields, and that could lead to a bit of widening. jonathan: a conversation i have with a lot of people is the difference between high-yield and leveraged loans in the united states. where is blackrock on the debate right now? leveraged loans or high-yield? bob: tricky question. the loan market has been a good place to hide. i think the front end, as you know, we think the front end of the yield curve in general offers a margin of safety now that it has an offered in the past. specifically 2.5% two-year notes that strikes us as reasonably fair. the loan market, we are definitely witnessing a deterioration in underwriting standards, throughout the market, over the past quar

this is bloomberg. ♪ mark: live from london, i'm mark barton. u.s. stocks are beginning a holiday shortened week in the red. geopolitical risk drags down global markets. investors are keeping a watch on a number of issues including trade and the uncertainty around angela merkel's future. we are joined by bloomberg senior editor for our love markets -- our markets live research. this week particular i think it's a macro story for all the reasons you mentioned. germanyy the tension in is a new wrinkle to all of this. angela merkel's coalition has been the stabilizing force throughout all the various european drama stories we've seen. that's definitely something i think investors will be keeping an eye on all week. really it's getting down to deadline time on the trade tensions. at the end of the week friday is china,e u.s. tariffs on $30 billion will go into effect. for the most part investors will -- had assumed there would be some sort of grand bargain before that actually happened. at the moment it doesn't look like there is anything in the works. n

mark? mark: u.k. regulators have a stern warning, move away from product based on the libor rate or risk more penalties. john, what is the fca worried about? john: it's not just the fca, is the financial regulators in general. they are worried about contracts like the interest rate swells through the derivatives. as the bond market mortgages in the u.s. have ties to this , it isn'tenchmark going to exist, basically. it's a benchmark that supposedly represents something that isn't happening. so, it is based on estimates. or should we say guesstimates of what it should be. which means it's not very robust . that means it's also open to manipulation. as we saw, there has been a lot of -- a number of court cases going through, heavy fines, banks don't like it and banks don't like the reputation of sitting on the panels that supply the evidence. the regulators don't want them and the idear 2021 is that we won't force them to do it anymore, so get to it. go at it. find something else. john, why aren't peopl
