jan crawford covers the supreme court for us. rikki klieman is our legal analyst. both of them will be with us tomorrow as well. jan, first to you, what are you expecting tomorrow? >> jeff, in some ways it seems like the same playbook that goes back in 1991 with the thomas/hill hearings, where you have republicans heading the confirmation, and these last- minute nominations that they both, thomas and kavanaugh, flatly deny. s , if history is repeating itself, you'd expect to hear a lot of new details tomorrow. when anita hill testified, she gave all those graphic details that she hadn't mentioned before, not even to the f.b.i. fot here, ford has said she doesn't remember anything more than what she has already described. ha, she's going to be asked about that one event at a party she said happened in high school, while kavanaugh will be asked about all of his personal behavior over his entire life. now, i talked to senator jack danforth today, he was justice thomas' chief sponsor in the senate for those hearings in '91, and his advice to thomas, then, was to be you

jan crawford is covering the hearings on capitol hill. jan, good morning. >> reporter: the hearings just got under way and already we have seen a number of protesters thrown out of that committee room. i mean, it's going to be looks like more of the same kind of disruptions of yesterday where the battle lines were drawn early with protesters and democrats on the committee who said they needed more information. republicans pushed back but the division on this committee yesterday were extremely clear. >> going to be sparks, a lot of heat. hopefully some light, as well. >> reporter: democrats vowed to keep up the pressure today when judge brett kavanaugh faces his first round of questions. >> i think it was completely appropriate that democratic senators chose to raise their concerns. >> reporter: committee chairman chuck grassley noted that few if any of those concerns focused on kavanaugh's record. >> nobody has found any qualification problems with this particular nominee. it's all been on process. >> mr. chairman, i would like to be reco

. >> jan crawford was in those hearings and now joins us from capitol hill. jan, how did that e-mail impact the questioning of the nominee and how will it affect his status going forward? >> reporter: well, i mean, i think that kind of just showed the idea there was this confidential e-mail out there was a lot more powerful than the actual reality of what was in the e-mail. when they were released, as you saw in that exchange, kavanaugh was asked about them. he said that was the views of legal scholars. so feinstein said okay, thank you, and they moved on. the takeaway from that is really after these two days of his testimony, democrats threw a lot of punches. but they didn't really land any. >> it was this hours th s thaho the judge sat through, judge kavanaugh. what did he do to prepare? >> reporter: well, i mean, he right away -- the next day after he was nominated, he started immersing himself in the law books and in the law. you saw the range of questions they asked. and then that worked up to questions with individual lawyers on issues to the end where
