i'm christine romans. it is 32 minutes past the hour. let's start with breaking news. lion airline jet crashed overnight shortly after takeoff from the indonesian capital of jakarta. we have cnn's will ripley with details. what do we know, will? >> reporter: we learned, christine, from lion air that the plane was reported to have an unspecified technical problem. this brand new boeing 737 max delivered to the airline in august had an unspecified technical problem the night before the flight. the problem was repaired and the plane deemed ready to fly. we also know weather conditions were -- there were scattered thunderstorms in the area. nothing that would come close to the plane or put the plane in danger. we are learning the identity of the captain. he has had more than 6,000 flight hours. a combined 11,000 hours of experience for the flight crew itself. a plane with a slight technical problem, but repaired. a new aircraft. a lot of questions as to what could have happened. here is what we know. the plane took off from jakarta. it was headed for pangkal. early monday
