. >>> i'm anne makovec at the live news desk and we have some breaking news out of indiana this morning. there was a big house fire and six people were killed including four children. this is in logansport a rural area. and that made the firefight even more difficult. firefighters had to truck in water because there were no working fire hydrants in the area. they were able to save two adults from the house fire, a mother and a son. but those four children who died range in age from 2 months to 10 years. the fire marshal just got to the scene and that's that person is going to determine the cause of the fire. there's also the possibility of a criminal investigation. they say it's too soon to tell if it were accidental or arson. >> thank you. >>> to our campaign 2018 coverage. republican senator cindy hyde- smith will win the mississippi runoff election defeating mike espy. the contest was heated in particular by hyde-smith's comment about attending a public hanging. tom hanson reports. >> the reason we won is because mississippians know me and they know my heart. >> reporter: mississippi

. >>> i'm anne makovec at the live news desk following a new fire that has broken out in southern california late last night. this is in san bernardino county. it is burning right along i-15 in the areas of rialto and fontana. it's called the sierra fire. it burned 20 acres. these crazy santa ana winds, we have been warning about them. p.m., th this at 30 origal at acs. r it upto 20 acres. they were able to hold those lines overnight. but again the difficulty is the winds. no evacuations yet in san bernardino county. but people in the area are self-evacuating because we have seen time and time again how quickly these flames move. >> thank you. >>> meanwhile, flare-ups are a major concern for crews battling the woolsey fire wells of los angeles. the burn zone covers 97,000 acres. that's an area about the size of denver. but crews are making progress. the fire is 40% contained. and some evacuation orders have been lifted. >>> this morning, president trump is sending his interior secretary and fema administrator to california. they will tour the butte county fire zone with governor jerry brown.

. >>> i'm anne makovec at the live news desk following breaking news out of southern california. a huge wildfire burning in ventura and l.a. counties. i want to show you some live pictures right now. several homes have burned. dozens in fact. we don't have an accurate count right now. with you you can see some of them burning there. these are pictures from our sister station's chopper right now. we have seen firefighters going door to door. mandatory evacuations overnight. so waking people up in the middle of the night. some of these warnings coming over cell phone, some just by person and people, um, hearing sirens and then realizing they needed to leave. we're hearing between 30,000 and 75,000 homes being evacuated right now in that area. again, that's between l.a. and ventura counties. the fire threatening to cross 101 right now. so we are trying to get a better handle on exactly how many homes we're talking about. but we have heard up to 75,000 homes under evacuation now. this fire started at 2:25 p.m. yesterday in simi valley and just quickly blew up, spreading to at least 8
