what do you think that says, lauren, what's your take what went on? >> saukt typically a very volatile month historically, and most volatile as you noted since the height of the financial crisis essentially this year. now the start of november has been amazing. it doesn't mean the volatility is going away, it's going stay because the federal reserve was handed confirmation that this economy vis-a-vis the jobs report is strong and do they have to hike interest rates? maybe more aggressively but continue to hike, and that could be a source of concern for a lot of people, so i think the volatility will stay through the new year. maria: yeah, when you see rates up at 3% it gives you alternatives, right? james, if i'm going to get 3% in a two-year, maybe i will take money out of stocks. at the end of the month, friday, we got great jobs numbers, a few days before the midterm elections, that was good news. >> looks like an economy that can sustain higher rates. of course higher rates, savers are saying thank goodness, after a decade, i'm going to get paid f

lauren: everyone is shopping today. they are hoping for a trade war. are we expecting any sort of breakthrough from this conversation. this is point to go on for many years. the world's only superpower. when you put that in context it would be nice to get some good headlines this week and some short-term balance. i would love that. i don't see any sort of long term long-term solution playing out here. we were up sharply before this. in racine so do the declines just continue until we get some sort of agreement. is there something the short term that would give investors reason to like equities again. i think the selloff has far more to do with interest rates than trade wars. it's a great article last week. and of the 25% tariffs that have been placed on such -- a certain goods from china. we are winning this trade war. there are many more things we can do to inflict pain on china. it will ultimately better -- benefit them. it is opening up the markets. do you think we are ahead in the trade were so far. we just don't have a deal yet. do they not take a

well lauren in a race that's all about turnout and that's what this midterm election is about it could always make the difference perhaps less so in indiana where i am now than in states like georgia and florida where you have an african-american candidate running this is an issue in twenty six states according to a lawsuit by civil rights groups one that is thought to benefit republicans like president trump and his party president trump is here in fort wayne indiana today and i've got somebody who knows a little bit more about this this is andrew downs of the mike down center for indiana politics at purdue university fort wayne and let me ask you for starters. president trump won by nineteen percentage points in two thousand and sixteen why is he so popular here in indiana well indiana is a conservative state even a lot of the democrats are conservative in fact if you go down to the southern part of the state you'll find a lot of democrats who support policies that are basically conservative or republican even so it's a conservative state to begin with and actually if you look histor
