>> reporter: well, raj, highway 1 is now reopen and traffic is flowing smoothly. investigators are looking into the possibility that big rig that slammed into 20 cars here may have been overloaded, possibly impacting the truck's brakes. the fire eye crash happened around 10 check this morning. the chp says this big rig was traveling about 40 miles per hour when the brakes went out, that's when the truck swerved back and forth here on north bay 1 at river street, hitting 20 vehicles waiting at the stoplight. >> the car behind me was hit and driven into my car, which drove me off the road. >> reporter: the truck finally stopped when it hit this car which burst into flames. miraculously, the driver survived and he was airlifted to a hospital in san jose. a total of 11 were injured, three critically. chp is investigating what led up to the crash. they weighed the truck which was carrying clay, to see if it was overloaded. >> we are looking into the possibility the vehicle was overloaded which can contribute to brake failure especially when you're on a mountainous high
