in wisconsin, republican scott walker in for the fight of his political career. in waukesha, wisconsin, outside milwaukee, how is it looking for from you are. >> reporter: what a tight race. we are in a purple voting district. they are really concerned about taxes and concerned about health care. there is a big conversation here about how people were going to vote. i was talking to voters off to the sidelines and they were saying they didn't want to vote straight party ticket. one lady said i have eight grandkids. i want to keep scott walker in office, but i want a change at the top, especially in washington. how do we have this conversation? some other people are joining in. that back and forth and open dialogue. one of the things they want the change in is the toxic behavior in washington. one young man who was 19 said earlier it was the parkland shooting that motivated him to come out and vote. already more than 500,000 abs t absentee ballots were turned in. despite the conditions here which is rainy, cold, and wet, people have been coming up every half hour o

scott walker trying to hang on, win a third term after surviving the recall. he trails tony evers by 6,000 votes. there are a few pockets left where walker can still pick up some votes and eat into that margin. he could eliminate the margin in brown county where green bay is. still half the vote yet to come. a significant lead for walker. here is the suspense, here's the wild card and here is the drama. take a look at milwaukee county, obviously huge democratic area. we have just been told that the city of milwaukee has 45,000 uncounted absentee ballots that will be counted in the next hour. so, that is the biggest, single wild card we were not even aware of until a few minutes ago that has the potential to alter the math. we have some areas of brown county, some other areas in the state where scott walker can pick up a lot of vote. there is one giant one left there for democrats as well. again, with evers clinging to a 6,000-vote lead right now. >> wow. >> steve, in terms of the votes yet to be counted and the timing on those getting counted, what does that m

think about it, scott walker has survived recounts, recalls, huge protests. but i think that in wisconsin, as you saw throughout the upper midwest, and i think that's an undercovered story at this point, the trump -- trump just basically was too uphill. there was a senate race in which the republican candidate was really tieing herself to donald trump, and she lost by more than ten points. but i want to just point out, we've been focused on places like texas and florida. but look at the upper midwest, pennsylvania, ohio, michigan and wisconsin. in the governors and senate races the democrats won seven out of eight of those races, in states that donald trump must win in the electoral college. >> is that because president trump lost some of his supporters in those states or is it because in those states new voters showed up to the game? >> i think probably a little bit of both of those. but i do think that the democrats did turn out in very, very big numbers. but the notion somehow that donald trump has rewritten the electoral map i think may need to be reevalu

now by 5,800 votes over scott walker. the big piece of suspense has everything to do with milwaukee county. a core democratic area. we had that report and we confirmed this much. that officials said they had 45,000 uncounted absentee ballots they would tabulate and get out to us asap. the expectation is that they would favor evers. we haven't confirmed it so we're trying to track that down. if anything like that is true, that would be a gain for evers something like 15,000 votes and already leading. that would put him in a terrific position. that's the biggest outstanding story. and there's georgia. we heard stacey abrams not could not seating. if kemp's total does somehow fall under 50%, it does go to a run-off. our decision desk is not calling it yet but we suspect that kemp will finish over 50%. >> it doesn't look like they can make up the difference? >> that's right. the two out there right now, this is a majority black county. stacey abrams doing very well. there are precincts, not many, unlikely even they could brin
