steve: how would you fix it? senator corker: well, i think, look, it is always easy to try to destroy what someone else has created for the sake of destruction. i think that what i have seen in our state is we have had a situation where we have been fortunate enough to have governors that build on the successes of other governors, and we have been able to do that. when a republican comes after a democrat, they build on the successes. we are going through a time right now, a populist period of time in our nation, and by the way, there are real forces driving that. you have middle-income citizens the don't feel any, for 30 years, any real appreciation in their standard of living. it creates forces and creates anger, and people feel like culturally they are losing out, if you will, to other people. but i think that it is always easy to run in and destroy, tear up, and try to demonstrate to people you are strong, but it is much harder, much harder, to work with your friends, that includes other countries, to build al

steve: let me ask you about money and politics. it does cost so much to run for office, and once you are in, you spend how much time in any given day raising money for reelection? rep. tsongas: it is definitely something anyone seeking this office has to deal with. when i first decided to run, one of the tests i had for myself was would i be comfortable raising money. i have never done it myself. much has changed in the years since my husband sought election, the money was important back then, but nowhere near as important as today. it is something nobody likes, but we have to invest the necessary time and doing it. when you are first seeking the seat, it is something you have to work at. as your voters become more familiar with you, it becomes less of an imperative, but still something you have to do. since i decided not to run, it has slipped off. it is not something i actively miss. it was not one of the reasons why i decided not to run, but i am relieved it is something i don't have to do any more. i met some wonderful people i

steve: sir. mr. steil: i think of paul ryan the person, great father, great husband, someone we are proud to call our congressman. he is also a great listener. great constituent services. if you had a problem with red tape in washington, d.c., he is the person you go to. that carried on a tradition from les aspen to paul ryan. i think it is someone we are proud of to call our congressman here in southeast wisconsin. i think everyone bring something unique to the table. i bring my own personal background. my background for the last 10 years, working for local, rock county manufacturing companies, solving problems. i think i can bring that to the table. i spent the last two and a half years working on education policy. how do we make education affordable, so that it is accessible to those individuals looking to obtain those jobs of the future. if jobs become plentiful, first of all, we have a skills gap. we have been working day in and day out to solve that problem. i can bring those skill sets to the

ainsley: that's the judge, steve. steve: that's him. u.s. district judge john nominated by barack obama in 2012 to take the court. he essentially said when the president came out and said if you want asylum, you have got to go through a port of entry. you can't just walk across the rio grand river or slink through the dessert. have you got to come through a port of entry. he said that is against the law. and, in fact, federal law, he says, says all people on u.s. soil can apply for asylum, no matter how they arrive. ainsley: the president was saying no more catch and release. it's going to be catch and return. this guy says no, that's not legal. as soon as they take -- as soon as they step foot on american soil they can apply for asylum. brian: that to me seems fundamentally so wrong and work their way up the court system. reminds me of travel ban. change the language and get it right. ultimately you would think the president would prevail out of pure logic. when has logic entered the fray. let's see what dhs secretary kirstjen nielsen said

steve bannon was there. this was very clever which was donald trump campaigned in 2016 as the one republican who would respect and protect american health insurance. he gave an interview in september to dr. oz -- it is watched by a lot of people. 80% of his audience has a income of less than 33 -- 30,000 a year. donald trump said on the program, we are going to come up with health care plans that will be so good and so much less expensive, both for the country and the people, and so much better. steve: one question on government spending. when we sat down with him, that debt was several trillion dollars. it is now in excess of $21 trillion. how did we get to this point? rep. tsongas: well, it is a point at which we have got to come to grips with it. when we were grappling with the great recession, i would have conversations with people who say you come out of this tradition of fiscal restraint and how was it you could endorse something like the stimulus package? the reality was the coalition that paul founded with senator rudman after the election to focus on constraining our finances and spending, but even the concord coalition recognized that this was an investment we had to make to stop the free fall. i certainly endorsed it. i can't speak for paul, but my guess is he would have as well. we are now at a point where we are passing tax cuts that benefit those who have the most among us, and without any effort to pay for them by constraining spending, so the imbalance is a great one and something we will have to grappl
