a car chase that started in the glenn cove area of vallejo. it ended with officers shooting a driver in oakland. officials say vallejo police shot the suspect multiple times, international boulevard and 22nd avenue this afternoon. the chase spanned more than 30 miles, with speeds up to 112 miles per hour. officers say that suspect was armed and was wearing body armor. let's take a look now from sky 7. the suspect crashed as you see there, an suv on a sidewalk. paramedics were seen treating him on the ground and put in an awaiting ambulance. police haven't released information on his condition. no officers were hurt. >>> new at 6:00 p.m., an oakland father is facing multiple charges because his 3-year-old son was able to get his hands on a gun and shoot himself earlier this week. 29-year-old kavani page, sr. made his first court appearance. he admitted that he had a gun hidden on top of an entertainment cabinet. the boy was able to climb up there and get the gun. page and his wife took the child to a hospital. he has since been transferred to c

yesterday when vallejo officers got a tip about an armed man parked outside a home. police chased him to oakland at times reaching speeds of 120 miles an hour. >> vehicle he's a toyota 4runner is a toyota 4runner, uzi, handguns, full body armor. >> you can hear dispatchers warning responding units about the suspect carrying assault weapons and body armor. police say at one point during the chase, he started shooting at officers. officers returned fire and the suspect crashed. his condition is unknown at this time. one officer had minor injuries. it's unclear when exactly police opened fire or whether the suspect was still in his suv. oakland police are taking over the criminal investigation while vallejo police will conduct an internal probe. >>> the oldest victim of the shooting at a pennsylvania synagogue will be laid to rest today. 97-year-old rose mallinger was among 11 victims gunned down in the deadliest attack on jews in the u.s. in history. the suspect pled not guilty to federal charges. it could result in the death sentence. >>> time now 6:09. a popular bay

. >> reporter: the vehicles are still here and you can see the area is cordoned off. vallejo police and oakland police are piecing this together but they say the man driving that suv not only had weapons but used them. from sky fox, a black ford explorer crashed in a busy intersection and riddled with bullets, its windows shattered. this is where the incident ended, but it began with a phone call. >> it was called in by a very credible witness who knows the suspect. >> reporter: the caller told dispatch the suspect seen here after he was shot multiple times by police, has shown up in front of the caller's house in the glen cove neighborhood and the man was parked with an arsenal in his vehicle. >> he was heavily armed with rifles, assault weapons, a handgun, and he was fearful, he let our officers know that. >> reporter: but when officers arrived, the man took off, triggering a 30 mile chase down i-80 toward east oakland. 100 miles-per-hour at times, and once on city streets. >> we have reports that the suspect did fire at our officers during the pursuit. >> reporter:

you can see this area has been closed off to traffic. i want to direct your attention to that black suv you see in the distance where opd says the man that was shot multiple times crashed into that area you see right there. you can see all the suv patrol cars surrounding that vehicle. you can see that from where we're standing we can see the windows of that suv were shot at. opd is telling us that man was shot multiple times. it's reported that man was armed at the time, and that he was wearing body armor. we do not know who the suspect is, but we know he was transported, he was rushed to a nearby hospital. at this point multiple gunshot wounds. but i can tell you this happened at the worst time possible because it is in the middle of the evening commute and this has caused major backups in the fruitvale area especially along international as well as east 12th street. we are expecting to hear more information from the vallejo police department public information officer as soon as we get more information we'll be sure to bring that to yo

east to antioch, martinez, vallejo and the rest is unhealthy. this will continue move around, and we are looking at very unhealthy to unhealthy air for the entire day. visibility has been at issue for days now. sfo, some flights delayed because of that visibility issue now a mile and a half seen there. livermore less than a mile reported there, over areas of napa, about a mile and a quarter. the winds will be light and the upper level winds, that flow continues from the northeast, we're still down wind from the smoke. the air quality will remain an issue for friday afternoon, spare the air alert is the advisory for smoke. the advisories are expected to go until tuesday. we may get an onshore breeze that will help you go into the bay area weekend. way have a look at the extended forecast coming up. >>> you can ride for free today on several bay area transit systems because of the bad air quality. you can avoid walking or bike outside. the cable cars are shut down so passengers won't be exposed to smoky air. the south bay, bta is offering free rid

a vallejo police officer was involved in the shooting in the area. the suspect has been taken to the hospital for injuries. it's not clear if it involves a gunshot wound. no officers were hurt in the incident. more on this developing situation as it comes into our newsroom.
