at the two fires, the hill fire and the woolsey fire. roughly about 52,000 evacuated in northern california. predominantly, around the campfire. roughly 1860 mutual aid firefighters from fire departments up and down california, these are local government fire agencies that participate in the mutual aid system that are responding to these fires throughout california. that is nearly 500 mutual aid fire engines, and as i say, 1860 firefighters. we also have hundreds of law enforcement officers from agencies up and down the state that are supporting law enforcement, mutual aid,'s providing security, assisting with evacuations. and any other kind of assessment that is required. search and rescue operations, etc. we currently are requesting additional firefighting assistance from our neighboring states through the emergency management assistance compact. we have reached out to oregon, nevada, wyoming, and washington for seeing how much-how many resources we can get to come in . we are not just responding to what is in front of us, but we are a

we on the outskirts of the woolsey fire right now. you can see we're on the other side of the 101 freeway. it's already jumped and this is what officials fear. you feel this wind that's been coming lot of these flames spreading, and you can see how low the visibility actually is here right now. this place actually a little bit too unsafe for us to be right now so we're gonna try and get to a safer location. but you see this wind coming through. again this is a fire that went from 2000 acres to 8000 acres in just a matter of hours from thursday night into friday, and crews are just trying to maintain any sort of control on it. you hear sirens going, they are attacking this from the ground and from the air as well. and when you talk about the fires across this region this isn't just the only one you have this one going on. also the hill fire here in southern california as well. and interestingly enough, these are both fires that are threatening that very location where that shooting unfolded just two nights ago where that gunman burst i

we are talking about the woolsey fire here. are they giving any sense at all as to when they might have this fire completely contained? >> reporter: you know, they really will not give you any specifics on that. i mean, as you can see around and probably hear through the microphone size of this thing. i mean, it's huge. if you are familiar with this area at all, all the way from the san fernando valley, west, to the thousand oaks area and across the santa monica mountains, 10 to 15 miles out to the coast. and you know, the winds are still picking up so it's possible. it may continue to spread. it's possible that they may get more containment tonight. l.a. county, l.a. city fly their helicopters tonight and they've got a couple dozen of them. that has been the key along with aerial tankers but more so the helicopters in trying to build containment. the containment means they actually have a physical line around the fire. so even though the containment fires may not be as high as we would like, that does not mean they aren't maki

. >> in southern california, 57,000 structures threatened by the woolsey fire. it has grown to 93,000 acres and is 30% contained and has killed two people. cnn's nick watt has more from malibu which has been devastated by the woolsey fire. >> reporter: dave and christine, the death toll at the camp fire in northern california has risen to 42. 13 more bodies were found on monday. now, ten of the bodies that were found on monday were found in the little town of paradise. once home to 26,000 people. almost completely blown, burned off the map by that fire. sadly, the death toll up there could rise further. the sheriff has called for more search and rescue teams to come in tuesday with more cadaver dogs to try to find more of the missing. we heard 100 people are still missing. that doesn't mean they are all dead. a lot of people go missing because of cell service dropping. we are waiting and hoping that number doesn't rise, but we fear the worst. the winds in northern california has died down a bit. in malibu in southern california, the woolsey fire, the winds here

now, at this point, the woolsey fire is almost contained. authorities have confirmed the fire killed three people and destroyed more than 800 structures. this is a community that's dealing withug tragedies. the woolsey fire broke out the day after a lone gunman killed 12 people in the borderline bar, a country western bar in thousand oaks. it was college night, and the bar was packed when 28-year-old ian long, a former marine, opened fire. now, throughout the last week, while evacuating from their homes and fighting the fire, this community's been trying to cope, holding memorials and funerals for the shooting victims. now, after the president gets a look at the burn area down here, he is expected to meet with the shooting victims and their families. reena. >> ninan: carter evans, thank you, carter. thick smoke is drifting hundreds of miles, making the air dangerous to breathe. in recent days, the air in california has been the dirtiest in the world. health officials say breathing it in is the same as smoking half a pack of cigarettes are's.
