"me resolution to censure representative king sends a message to the american people. the congress won't turned a blind eye to his racist behavior. anything sort of censure will be shallow." that's one of three formal modes of discipline in the house, censure. they've only censured 23 members in the history of the republic. the last was charlie rangel in december of 2010. the last formal discipline was put to laura richardson. at the end of the day, here's the problem that republicans have. look at the makeup of the incoming freshman republican class and the incoming fresh map democratic class. there's a lot of diversity. indian americans, native americans, white males in the republican class. this is the issue that republican

kevin mccarthy said he had met with all of the persons that would be appointed. he has yet to appoint them. he is sabotaging the work of this committee at this point, i don't think there's any way you can sugarcoat it. he is trying to more than slo-mo the operation of this committee. meanwhile, the democrats are continuing to have briefings on hotspots around the world. and we are going to take our responsibilities very seriously. i am deeply concerned that kevin mccarthy doesn't recognize his obligation to put people on that committee to help us guide the intelligence communities. >> i'm going to ask you about the potential impact on the mueller investigation, but my primary focus here is that normally, what the intelligence leaders do is brief the senate and then the house or vice-versa. they give this threat assessment to each house intelligence committee. i'm presuming you all have not had that scheduled yet. >> that's correct, because we were waiting for the republicans to be appointed to the committee so we could do it in a bipartisan manner. there has been

steve king, he met with house minority leader kevin mccarthy. here's part of his statement after that session tonight. he said mccarthy's decision to remove me from committees is a political decision that ignores the truth. i told him you do what you have to do and i will do what i have to do. there are three official modes of sanction in the house of representatives. there is a reprimand, there is censure and there's expulsion. jim, jim clyburn, the democratic work is introducing a rebel atomic resolution of disapproval. disapprove of the remarks by steve king. this is a similar tactic that clyburn initiated in 2009 when joe wilson, the republican congressman from south carolina heckled president obama on the house floor. bobby rush is a democratic congressman from illinois. if he doesn't think that this goes far enough. he has introduced a censure resolution. center the congressman. >> show him physically who is superior, i would. but that would mean that i would be brought down to his level. >> there's only been a few times that they have act

we need to remember that kevin mccarthy is the best choice to be republican leader in the house, because he played a pivotal role going into 2010 the last time that the republicans defeated nancy pelosi's democrats and won the majority in the house of representatives and he is the best possible choice for a leader right now. >> and let's talk about how the democrats are organizing going into the 2020 campaign and as a lawyer, what do you think of wh that justice department guidance against not indicting a sitting president actually is something that should be binding? >> look, i think she's right to leave that to robert mueller to figure out. let the lawyers figure it out. she's focused on doing her job which is running the house of representatives and getting the government reopened. they're going to act on that very quickly. putting anti-corruption legislation on the floor. moving forward with the positive agenda. she wasn't elected to prosecute donald trump. she was elected to lead the democrats. she leads a very different democratic party. when she was made speaker in 2007, there wer

kevin mccarthy stripped him of assignments for remarks about white supremacy and white nationalism. do you think that was an appropriate step for the leadership to remove him from all of his committee assignments? tim: i would say the remarks were very serious and it was very appropriate they were addressed inside the conference. from what i know, they were addressed in a very holistic way, so that is good. i think that is good. representative king has been a leader on conservative issues. remarks like that are serious and you have to address them. i would leave it up to the internal politics of the conference to figure out if they did the exact right thing. scott: i think liz cheney went so far as to suggest he should find another line of work, effectively saying he should resign and leave congress. do you think that is appropriate? tim: i think that is between steve king and his constituents. i think it is perfectly appropriate for liz cheney to have a strong opinion about that. i support her right to have a strong opinion about that. it is something represented king has to talk t
