coalition governments are a rare thing in canada. when we talk about an official coalition where a party will support the liberals, maybe givena will support the liberals, maybe given a seat at the table of government to have members of the party appointed to cabinet. we have not had a true coalition government in 80 years. longer than that, possibly. but what we are likely to see, what may come to pass is what we saw in 2006 and 2008 under the prime ministership of the conservative leader stephen harper. he governed for two terms in a minority situation by doing a handful of things. number one, daring the opposition parties to bring him down knowing full well that canadians would not in the mood to go back to the polls soon and knowing that the war chest for campaigns where empties. what he did instead was go to the other parties oi'i instead was go to the other parties ona instead was go to the other parties on a vote by the policy by policy case— by—case on a vote by the policy by policy case—by—case basis and make a deal.
