chris wallace, what did you hear, chris? >> i was impressed by both of the witnesses. they were very careful in what they said. i was particularly struck when fiona hill was asked about the july 25th phone call. she didn't want to talk about it. this of course is the call the president released. declassified. but she said i wasn't there for it. there are questions of executive privilege and she was very, very careful in what she said. so the point being that neither of them seemed to come with any particular animus or political point of view. what becomes clear in all of this is that everybody that was associated with this and we're talking about the chief policy advisor to the ambassador in ukraine and the top person for ukrainian issues in the national security council. everybody seemed to be working off the same set of facts and the set of facts were that rudy giuliani was working on behalf of the president. the sondland was working on behalf of the president. the kind of person who could get the president on a phone call on his cell phone in a patio of a restaurant

want to bring in chris wallace. perhaps that moment where the chairman, read the president's tweet in realtime and asked their witness, marie yovanovitch to respond. perhaps that is emerging as one of the big moments of the two-day public hearings. >> so far at least. we're relatively early in the process because it will be three more full days of testimony next week but so far to the degree that there is a moment in these hearings it was that. and frankly it was one the president created. if he hadn't tweeted it, then there wouldn't have been the opportunity for adam schiff to ask yovanovitch. i'll pick up on something andy mccarthy just said. if republicans' argument is that the president has the right to remove an ambassador and they serve at the pleasure of the president, if that's the best they can do, i think they are in some trouble here. nobody disagrees that he had the right to remove yovanovitch and i can certainly make the argument that there was a new president of ukraine and you wanted a new team around

let's bring in our panel, chris wallace, judge ken starr, juan williams and dana perino. chris, let's start with you. your thoughts? >> chris: well, as somebody who has covered a lot of trials, and i know judge starr has probably been on a lot more than i have, when you listen to direct examination and the prosecutor for -- is talking to the plaintiff and the plaintiff is getting a chance to tell his story, it usually is pretty devastating. and then when you get cross-examination by the defense attorney, sometimes it turns out not to be quite as effective. so you have to be somewhat cautious in reacting to what we have heard so far. we haven't heard what devin nunes or his lawyer, steven caster is going to ask. having said that i think that william taylor was a very impressive witness and was very damaging to the president. first of all, as you pointed out, he took very copious notes at almost every conversation when he put quotes in his opening statement he said those were direct quotes from what was said. it also doesn't hurt that he has a voice like edward r. murrow. h

and it is very interesting as chris wallace mentioned, i was thinking the same thing. they upset the apple cart, they being the trump administration with the aid of rudy giuliani. they upset the apple cart, who did they get? they got william taylor. they do not work very hard, it appears if that was her goal to find someone who was stronger, sort of proponent of the policies of the trump administration, which is just sort of making the whole thing look a little bit clumsy if that was their aim. the other thing that i thought was interesting is something that was also touched upon, which is that president zelensky also demonstrates that he was having a problem with her. and i would've liked to hear a little bit more questioning along those lines, why do you think he said is this about you? why do you think that he was concerned that you were an ally of pershing company and that you were not going to support his new government. i think that i was sort of a stone that was left unturned. i also think -- >> bret: there were a lot of them, martha. thinking 45 minutes. >> the

we still ever amazing panel, bret baier, chris wallace, we have ken mccarthy, and here with me here martha maccallum, and juan williams in new york. bret baier, can i turn to you first for any thoughts over how this afternoon has gone? >> well, slowly. the republican counsel at times, i think it was tough to follow where exactly he was going to try to land at some of those questions. there were some moments that he had from the witness from the ambassador that she was not a part of some of the decision-making. that she was removed, that she was not a first-hand witness to a lot of what has happened. some of the questioning from the congressman, especially devin nunes got that out a little bit more. what we have not seen as any questions about this. this is the rudy giuliani statement and letter paid any questions about the conspiracy that he talks about on 2016 that was happening inside the ukraine. any questions about george soros and his activities. any questions about her knowledge of any of that. that questioning has not happened. and that raises questions about giuliani statement and

today on fox news sunday, host chris wallace asked bay area congressman eric swalwell about the democrat's choice to expedite the impeachment to donald trump. >> you guys say the president used his political powers -- used his office for his political benefit in what he was asking ukraine to do. aren't you in a sense doing the same thing, using your power on one of the most important things for your benefit? >> we have powerful evidence already. if the president thought these witnesses could clear him, he would allow them to come in. i think what's more relevant than how long we should wait in the courts is the fact that the president won't let them come in. only a guilty person would block people from coming to congress. >> first, the house intelligence committee will issue a report with its findings and recommendations. that report will then be sent to the judiciary committee and released to the public. then more hearings could be held. if judiciary panel decides impeachment is warranted, it would draft articles for a full- house vote. if the house impeaches, the senate would have the ch
