. >>> darren peck joins me now. just because pg&e is dialing things back that does not mean we are out of the woods quite yet. >> that is an important distinction. when the national weather service issues a red flag warning that is completely separate from the response that pg&e then does. the red flag warning hasn't changed is the same forecast that i have for you yesterday at this time and these are the things to pay attention to. first thing i want to point out the fine print up there from 4 a.m. through 7 a.m. on thursday, look at the map. definitely the mountains in the north bay, but this still includes the east bay hills and the diablo range just as it always has. the potential is there for gusts to 60 miles per hour. if we look at the high- resolution forecast for the greatest concern is it is up here, and the north bay mountains is still as it was with the last several events as it always has been in the forecast. meanwhile, down in the towns we live like santa rosa and napa it is a 1220 mount our guest. it

darren, why won't you be out there tomorrow? >> i'll be here with you guys covering the weather. we'll get to enjoy seeing mary out there in the early evening newscast. let's talk about that storm that's going to bring more snow to the sierra because the first thing i want to address is the rain that we could see here by the time we get into the middle part of next week. we're calling this holiday rain chance, but it looks like the best of the rain could come in just before the main travel. we're still several days out on the forecast, so what we're about to look out in terms of timing and amount will likely adjust a little bit over the next 36 hours as we get closer to this. but the rain arrives late tuesday, and we get widespread rain across the bay area from late tuesday into wednesday. pick up anywhere from a quarter inch to maybe a half inch of rain. and it will be low enough snow in the sierra that not only is it good news for the ski report, but more importantly it might be a travel concern for anyone heading into the mountains on wednesday. but the snow levels will get lo

. >>> you made it to the weekend and darren is here to tell you what kind of a couple days off we'll have. >> no doubt if you've driven on been outside, you've noticed the sky is not the prettiest. look at the haze over san jose, and we went back to just before sunset to show that to you, and, um, this is a mix. it looks is. some of it is smoke left over from from the wildfires, but it's all smoke and not as bad as it looks. look at the foreground. that's the marine layer surging on shore. now look back here. look how there's a flat line here. so there's 2 things happening here that are making our air look so unpleasant. one, that line right there shows you there's a cap on the atmosphere. we have a center of high pressure over us keeping it so warm. inland still near 80. and the cap of high pressure is like a lid. so anything we put into the air stays in the air whether it's last week's smoke or the dirt coming off the roads today. the other thing with the marine layer is we're adding more humidity into the air, and that just makes this stuff more visible. it shows up as more haze.

." >>> darren peck joins us with a look at the forecast. pretty foggy day today? >> i know that's why i want to take advantage of the opportunity right now to show you the view from the top of the salesforce tower. you can actually see something. it was great and gray over much of the afternoon that they live look looking down at the bay bridge. i put the numbers in front of that, you no doubt noticed a change today. not only did it look different, with all the clouds, the temperatures came way down. let's do a comparison here. the column over here shows you how much cooler today's day and high was. san francisco was a 12 degree drop. when you look at this you can see a pattern. it was the bay that really changed the most today. if you are inland, you still got a cool down. but you do not go down as much is those locations that were right on the front lines of the return of a healthy onshore flow. the marine layer came in, cooler air came in, do not get out of the 50s all day. it was gray there was a weak storm sitting right up the coast, and while this does mean
