maria: exactly. does it bother you, for example, google -- i mean, the jewel of google is its a.i., the best in the world at google, and they've got their a.i. lab in beijing. >> yeah. that's not a good thing, and i think that says a lot about our national strategies and also says a lot about our educational system, you know? that we don't, we're not gearing kids up to s.t.e.m., we're not gearing kids up towards becoming engineers. i don't know the exact number, but they graduate more engineers if in a single year than we have in all of our universities, something to that effect. so we're going to have to work harder to compete. and what's even worser, our immigration policies are making it tougher. we educate kids from around the world and then ask them to leave. we need that talented, we need that talented to stay here. maria: these technology companies are more powerful, bigger than we ever expected them to be and, you know, google was 90% market snare search, and then the censoring of conservativ

maria: right. the fact that chinese want tariffs off as precondition, they are going to lie, they are going to cheat and steal and that's what's hong kong is all about. maria: six months in hong kong and falling into recession for the first time in a decade. violent antigovernment protests and u.s.-china trade pass certainly has to have pressure on the chinese but they are still unwilling to keep the promises that they made in that initial trade deal back in may which included, you know, having it against the law to steal intellectual property, i don't know if they will renege on this, but there are no indications that they are agree to go any mechanism to keep them at the table in terms of an enforcement. >> yeah, they're not going to do that, their model is to steal from us. the tariffs are essentially the leverage. you can get more leverage by putting in other trading agreements with with other partners. we have to get past this ugly dependency on a communist, you know, dictatorship that's commi

maria: the u.s. times leaked cables which expose iran's influence in iraq and the effort to completely infiltrate every aspect of iraqi politics. the documents were shared anonymously, neither outlet aware of who leaked them. doesn't that open the door to those concerns you're talking about? >> well, the leaks i think demonstrate just how tired people are in places like iraq, of iranian interference. so it is true that there were about 700 pages of classified material, showing how iran wields power in iraq and iran has very hegemonic ambitions. they would like to dominate iraq. they would like to create power that stretches from lebanon to yemen. iran is the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism, this is a national security concern for the united states. we're pleased to see people rising up and demanding that iran go back to its own borders and stop interfering with other countries. maria: on that note, let me end where we began and that's the settlement news. what is the trump white house tryi

stock down 14% now, maria. maria: thank you. it is certainly off of the lows, down about 18 earlier. a little off of the lows on the earnings numbers use heard. there's a shakeup at mcdonald's going on. they fired the ceo, amid consensual relationship with an employee. grady trimble is live in chicago with more on a that. >> reporter: mcdonald's conducted an investigation and what they found is that easterbrook had a consensual he relationship with a current employee and that violated company policy. the company says that easterbrook demonstrated poor judgment by having that relationship but when we asked for further details about what the relationship was, they declined to comment. an attorney for easterbrook also declined to comment any further on the relationship, only offering this statement. mr. easterbrook acknowledges his error in judgment and supports the company's decision. he will not be commenting further at this time. it's important to note, shares doubled under easterbrook since he took over as ceo, back in 2015, so
