patrick: probably. the polls are pointing to a conservative majority, which would likely lead to that going forward. i think there are a lot of risks for the u.k. economy in 2020. if we get the withdrawal agreement approved, you still have a cliff edge at the end of the year. you have got the year to work on a trade deal. by no means is that is certainty. that is a significant headwind for the u.k. economy next year. i would not want to belong sterling right now. a is still going to be challenging year. you also have the potential for parliament. there will probably be a lot of fiscal stimulus, whether it is conservatives or labour. both of them have very strong pro-growth policies. nejra: you are not actually long on sterling but you are short on pound. boris johnson faces a much bigger battle in 2020. also in terms of the actual outcome for the election. bloomberg has a piece out about four ways it could go. obviously, you have the conservative majority, a hung parliament, and prime minister jeremy co

patrick: great question. there is a lot of concern about that, and that question gets to the heart of some of the other issues we are seeing in this to eight about big tech, and what is being done with your privacy, and business practices these companies are engaged in. the good news is that those records are already protected by existing law. hippa covers the privacy of your medical records. we weren't having this conversation when we began wiring hospitals with the internet. and we weren't talking about how internet service providers would have access to your health care records, because we understood that these companies, because they are subcontracted by a medical provider, are subject to hepa. so google is not empowered to use these records however they want. if there is a violation of hepa, it should be violated as such. host: you mentioned mark zuckerberg at georgetown. you also wrote an opinion piece in "the chicago tribune." you said mark zuckerberg summed up the company predicament, right now we are

patrick: yes. >> you talked to him. mr. patrick: sure. i knew barack obama before he was in any public office. i knew him when he was practically in civil rights law, and chicago. -- in chicago. he was white house counsel at the time when i was working in the clinton administration. i remember he said to me, have you ever met barack obama? he reminds me of you and you remind me of him, you guys should know each other. i heard the same, it is not a name you will commonly here. we had a chance to get together and spend some time together. i liked him from the beginning. i remember he called me, think i was working at coca-cola when he called to say he was running for office the first time. for state senate, i think. he said, i am running for us -- for office, i want your help. i was excited at that time, i said i am all in. i will give it the max. he said, there is no max in illinois. [laughter] , and then you know, his run for the presidency, i helped when i could. it was just the thing to behold, not just for him, but for the nation. posi

joe biden, he's making a run for the obama voters, deval patrick's. joe biden right now has 41% of african-american support. cory booker and kamala harris, who might have made a claim at that, have not been able to trip away at that. deval patrick may be able to do that, so what this is, this is a cry for help. this is a cry for help from the democratic establishment that is looking at this race and seeing joe biden's old and fragile and not ready to go mano a mano with donald trump and the pummeling he's going to get from donald trump at his machine and they see elizabeth warren, who is embracing this far left agenda, that gives no safe harbor to people who are suffering from trump exhaustion, so the democrats see this race slipping away from them, they are desperate for somebody else to come in, the leadership of the democratic party and they think that deval patrick and grab that obama lane, bring the african-american in the way hillary couldn't. >> bret: cory booker couldn't either. >> what's his platform? is going to embrace a platform like warre

let me ask this about governor patrick. i'm very familiar with the trial balloons for him running for president in the past and each of those trial balloons was not popped by anybody on the outside. it was popped by deval patrick's wife. she has been a hard no on this. almost was a hard no on him ever running for governor. he had to talk her into this. she is not somebody that enjoys the public spotlight from what i understand. how did he convince her? >> well, this is what we -- i'm glad you're catching on that. one thing that's been very public is that she has been struggling a lot with health issues. when you looked at his statement 11 months ago in december of 2018 as to why he would not run in 2020, he focused on what the campaign would do to his family. now that he appears to be close to jumping in the race this time, you have to think the number one key thing that's changed has been his family. >> you know, it's not lost on me that as supposedly these candidates jump in, bloomberg and patrick because they say there's

talk about the conversations that those allies have had with patrick, patrick himself has had, and if you see him positioning himself as obama 2.0. >> i wouldn't go in the way back machine, but it's important for context. you know, when deval patrick first ran for governor in 2006, he was -- he didn't have a shot at being in the nominee. he was an outsider. he went up this progressive lane, a very good speaker on the stumpp, and then he surprised a lot of people. i think from that experience he gained confidence, but also through that experience, in 2006, there was a guy in illinois named barack obama who said, you know, the way that deval patrick ran for governor for massachusetts, i think i can run for u.s. senate in illinois and he was explicit about that. obama talks about that a lot during patrick's administration. so i think deep down, he is very close with the former president, but what does that actually mean be? sure, close advisers to barack obama are into this deval patrick idea, they were really into it a year ago before deval decided not to run, but are we talking about t

first, deval patrick. should he do it? >> i don't know what the path is, who's advising him to do that, who he's talking to. if seems to, way too late to

patrick: that was part of it. ago,ted to get in a year just about now and i explained the reasons i didn't, and i had a sense of what the field was going to be even then. a lot of these candidates are friends of mine and we have been talking about their candidacies and my own, so it is not a sort of frustration with the field today. it is about what i think i can offer. worked and solved problems in the private sector am a public sector, not for profits and in this country and all over the world. i've had the great blessing of living the american dream, having grown up in poverty in chicago and had access to a great education and great opportunities, and i have watched that dream constrained, so the perspective of having those different assignments and solved problems in those different assignments, at the 'sme time watching the country half made so generously to me -- available to me has been made idea,vailable, i have an some ideas about how to restore that and how important it is that we restore that for everyb

and deval patrick maybe a long shot he could qualify for december. one thing to keep in mind, patrick, the former governor of massachusetts. massachusetts next door neighbor new hampshire, is there some residual sort of benefit for patrick in new hampshire? does he hit 6% coming out of the gate in a couple new hampshire polls? if he could do that in two polls between now and the middle of december, he could qualify for that debate. otherwise he's got to hit sort of 4% in some other places. it's getting tougher and tougher to qualify for these debates. as time goes on and candidates start missing multiple debates, the question does start to get raised about the future of their candidacies. >> his name is known. he's got that name id in new hampshire, steve. so then the question becomes if he starts showing up significantly. and by significantly i think 6% would be a pretty good place to start. does he hurt a elizabeth warren, does he hurt a joe biden? that's the outstanding question. >> so we saw bloomberg got included. bloomberg was thrown into one o

what do you think about duval patrick jumping in? >> very interesting. we are 60 or 70 days from the iowa caucuses new hampshire primary. will he take away from joe biden's lead? they will say no. the only campaign in this race that has a natural coalition of voters, what was the obama coalition, now to the finish line and eventually makes joe biden nominee. duval patrick's calculation, a lot of voters are undecided, looking for a candidate who can speak to what america should be and i'm a candidate who can do that. there are arguments we had so this is an interesting race for the governor of massachusetts but he has a short runway to get it done. he won't be in the november debate next week or the december debate. he has to give his message to the american people to make this an uphill battle. heather: duval patrick seems to think that perhaps there are some democrats still not satisfied with their choices but according to this fox news poll 69% say they are satisfied with her choice, only 28% saying they wish there were other options. is too little too

we're just outside patrick frazee's property there. and right up there, investigators have patrick frazee in custody. they rolled in here just a few minutes ago with an arrest warrant. >> reporter: frazee is now facing eight charges, including first degree murder and solicitation to commit first degree murder, all of which he's pleaded not guilty to. last december authorities identified the main crime scene as barrett's townhouse, leaving with bags of evidence, including traces of blood found in the bathroom and on a fireplace. police also say they discovered a series of mysterious text messages between barrett and frazee's phones three days after she disappeared. what is the text message she sent you on the 25th. barrett's phone was detected in idaho. in one frazee texts, do you need anything? can i do anything? barrett's replies, no, i'm fine, just warn out. another says do you even love me? frazee responds, yes, i do. but authorities say frazee staged those exchanges. >> a woman in idaho is now being investigated. >> reporter: that

instead of medicare for all patrick supports a public option. instead of a tax on the wealthy he prefers simplifying the tax code saying i don't think wealth is a problem, i think greed is a problem. patrick also said this. >> i think if we want solutions the last they can't be solutions that feel to the voting public as if they are just democratic. >> reporter: former president obama has yet to endorse a 2020 consider he and patrick are close in political reports obama was nudging him to run. for obama's inner circle the judge might have been an all out push. people like david axelrod, valerie jarrett, have made no secret of their belief that patrick is the natural continuation of the obama legacy. meantime some believe if cory booker and kamala harris continue stalling and polls, duval patrick could be an attractive alternative to joe biden who continues to get bogged down in questions about his son hunter's involvement with the ukrainian energy company and today biden was asked about his son being on the gop wishlist to testify at the impeach

i mean, does patrick have a chance in a place like iowa, new hampshire? >> you know, the only polling that i've seen from any of those places is about a year old. it suggested that patrick was running well behind in new hampshire, despite the fact that he was from right next door in massachusetts, where he was governor. i should point out patrick does probably need to make a strong showing in iowa. if you look through history what you see is that if you're going to be the nominee, pretty much all of them finish in either first, second, or third. the one exception since 1972 was john mccain, he finished fourth. but the media spun that as a third place finish with fred thomps thompson. if duvall patrick is going to have to make up ground, he's going to have to make it up in iowa and quickly. >> a new iowa poll we're going to be debuting in about 12 minutes, stay tuned for that. another developing gubernatorial election this evening in louisiana, the polls are still open there. this is a race that pits democratic incumbent john bell edwards against republica

do you think they will go after deval patrick the way they went after mitt romney for his association with bain capital? >> they will go after him if they think it will affect their candidacy, no doubt. i just still remember the romney thing because i remember a very we wealthy guy ran, and they said nothing about his wealth. and all of a sudden romney ran, i mean, it's amazing to watch politics and how it plays out. david: by the way, elizabeth warren for all her leftist rhetoric, has 12 million dollars, steve, that's ain't nothing? >> how did she get it? she's been a politician and university professor her whole life. when you asked that question whether they would attack patrick for being at bain capital when they did romney? are you accusing the left of having a double-standard? i mean come on, that never happens. [laughter] >> and even the centrists, the so called centrists in the democratic party, david, support universal healthcare, a public option and think that in the case of deval patrick think warren's wealth tax is in effect a good idea. the progressive ideology is still t

and, again, i think deval patrick has an opportunity. even if he came in third or fourth in iowa, even fifth, that places him in looking at south carolina in a very good place. because, again, you're going to have several of these candidates who can't be there to campaign. >> david, handicap the race for me as susan just did. >> well, i think you've got biden as a front-runner still. but warren, right in there. i think in iowa, you've got pete surging, which is a really interesting story. when you move to new hampshire, you know, most of the polls have sanders in the lead there. so basically, what the fear of the democratic party right now is that you could have four or five candidates each getting 14 or 15%. >> and because they're going to have money to do it. i mean, raised $10 million last quarter. buttigieg has a ton of cash on hand. so does warren, sanders, and biden. i mean, not as much but -- >> what happens in a broken convention, david? >> that's a mess i think. >> there's only one person who could broker it i think. no but i th

deval patrick has come out against medicare for all. he has suggested or tried to position himself maybe somewhere between joe biden and the more progressive candidates. what do you see his role in this campaign is? where is he running? >> first of all, we have to take the entrance of governor patrick seriously. he's governor two times over of an important state, with a good record intact. i believe his entrance into this race, frankly, will create more of a problem for joe biden. i think he's going to try to, basically, be the alternative to joe biden, and say i can get moderates and extend my reach into what might be otherwise progressive lanes of the party. i would also suggest that maybe governor patrick is also concluding that in this race, where no one yet has been able to penetrate the vice president's hold on the black vote, largely in south carolina, could he give him a run for the money, especially when you consider joe biden's standing right now has mostly been buoyed by the fact that the black vote has been with him, along w
