what you need to know is that it did not run in "the washington post." the post pulled the cartoon because it was a pro-eisenhower paper. and mr. block was pro-stevenson. and very adamant about that in his car toonz. and they felt that mr. block's opinion of eisenhower failing to control mccarthy and nixon went too far and might perhaps persuade voters not to vote for him. and so it didn't run. it did run in the areas where mr. block was syndicated, the other newspapers. what you also need to know about this cartoon is that "washington post" readers missed it. they knew a cartoon had appeared elsewhere, but it hadn't appeared in their hometown paper, and they were angry. and "the washington post" ran every single cartoon that mr. block chose to draw after that. he had a lot of power at the poe post as a cartoonist. we can see his art style has evolved to a very loose drawing style, but much more loose, he uses a lot of graphite, a lot of ink brush. and he's using a coquille board, a stippled board so it really grabs the pencil and grifbz it a nice textur

you could smoke in bars in washington. they did it with the wing back chairs, and the velvet booths and the dark burgundy walls, and somebody had the brainstorm that they wanted to do cartoons for art. the original genesis and collection on the wallace was from walls was from art wood, who ended up donating his collection to the library of congress. since then i got involved in 2018 thanks to my buddy, richard thompson when they wanted to update the caricatures to stuff that was more current. the wood collection went back to the 60's, 70's and 80's, and then there was a big gap. the thing happening in the bar was the newer clients didn't recognize the people from the nixon and reagan add strayings. so they wanted people from the clinton and obama administrations. that is when richard tom, who passed away a couple of years ago was brought information he was an astounding caricaturist. he was the top flight at the time. he did a lot of stuff for u.s. news and world report and the new yorker. so richard came in with portfolio
